Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati Jayanti

  • As per the traditional Hindu calendar, Dayanand Saraswati was born on the Dashami Tithi of Phalguna Krishna Paksha. This year, the day will be celebrated on 26th February.
  • Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati (12 February 1824 – 30 October 1883) was an Indian philosopher, social leader, and founder of the Arya Samaj, a reform movement of the Vedic dharma. He was the first to give the call for Swaraj as “India for Indians” in 1876, a call later taken up by Lokmanya Tilak.
  • Denouncing idolatry and ritualistic worship, he worked towards reviving Vedic ideologies. Subsequently, the philosopher and President of India, S. Radhakrishnan called him one of the “makers of Modern India”, as did Sri Aurobindo.

Veer Savarkar Remembered On His Punya Tithi

  • Vinayak Damodar Savarkar (28 May 1883 – 26 February 1966), known among followers by the honorific prefix Veer, was an Indian politician, activist, and writer.
  • He developed the Hindu nationalist political ideology of Hindutva while imprisoned at Ratnagiri in 1922.
  • He was a leading figure in the Hindu Mahasabha.
  • Savarkar joined the Hindu Mahasabha and popularized the term Hindutva (Hinduness), previously coined by Chandranath Basu, to create a collective “Hindu” identity as an essence of Bharat (India). Savarkar was an atheist but a pragmatic practitioner of Hindu philosophy.

Morarji Desai Remembered On His Jayanthi

  • Morarji Ranchhodji Desai (29 February 1896 – 10 April 1995) was an Indian independence activist and politician who served as the 4th Prime Minister of India between 1977 and 1979 leading the government formed by the Janata Party.
  • During his long career in politics, he held many important posts in government such as Chief Minister of Bombay State, Home Minister, Finance Minister, and 2nd Deputy Prime Minister of India.
  • Following the death of Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, Desai was a strong contender for the position of Prime Minister, only to be defeated by Indira Gandhi in 1966.
  • He was appointed as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance in Indira Gandhi’s cabinet, until 1969.
  • He resigned from Congress during the split of 1969 and joined the INC (O).
  • After the controversial emergency was lifted in 1977, the political parties of the opposition fought together against the Congress, under the umbrella of the Janata Party, and won the 1977 election. Desai was elected Prime Minister and became the first non-Congress Prime Minister of India.

Ministry Of Culture @ MILAN 2022

  • Ministry of Culture is participating in ‘MILAN 2022’ wherein Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) is organizing Cultural Programmes, in collaboration with Eastern Naval Command and Government of Andhra Pradesh, under the Aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsava from 26th to 28th February 2022 at Ramakrishna Beach and Milan Village, Visakhapatnam.
  • MILAN is a multinational naval exercise, conducted once every 2 years. The theme of MILAN 2022 ‘Camaraderie-Cohesion-Collaboration’ is a true embodiment of the spirit of the exercise. 46 friendly countries have been invited for MILAN 2022.
  • Cultural performances are being organized by IGNCA on behalf of the Ministry of Culture as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.  The Cultural programs include:
  • Kite Flying on 26th and 27th February 2022 from 3.00 PM to 4.00 PM at Behind RK Beach Bus Stop, Next to Gavvala Shops, Landmark NTR Statue
  • Rangoli making from 26th to 28th February 2022 (Full Day) at Behind RK Beach Bus Stop, Next to Gavvala Shops, Landmark NTR Statue
  • Cultural Troupe will be participating in City Parade on 26th and 27th February 2022 at 6.40 PM at Ramakrishna Beach and
  • Cultural Programme from 26th to 28th February 2022, 7:30 PM onwards at Beach road and Milan Village.

Sadia Tariq Wins Gold At Wushu Stars Championship

  • 15-year-old Sadia won the top by beating her Russian opponent in the Annual Calendar Training and Competition of the Sports Authority of India.
  • Sadia is the only Wushu athlete from Jammu and Kashmir to take part in the championship among the 38, including 23 junior and 15 senior players from across India.
  • Sadia Tariq hails from Srinagar and is a two times gold medalist in the National Junior Wushu championships. Sadia had recently won gold at the 20th Junior National Wushu Championship at Lovely Professional University, Jalandhar, as the Jammu and Kashmir Wushu team remained overall 3rd in the medals tally.
  • The World Wushu Championships (WWC) is an international sports championship hosted by the International Wushu Federation (IWUF) for the sports of wushu taolu and sanda (sanshou). It has been held biennially since 1991 and is the pinnacle event of the IWUF.

Cabinet Approves Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission

  • The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the national roll-out of Central Sector Scheme, Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, with a budget of Rs.1,600 crore for five years. The National Health Authority (NHA) will be the implementing agency of Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).
  • Digital health solutions across healthcare ecosystem have proven to be of immense benefit over the years, with CoWIN, Arogya Setu and eSanjeevani further demonstrating the role technology can play in enabling access to healthcare. However, there is a need to integrate such solutions for continuum of care, and effective utilization of resources.
  • Based on the foundations laid down in the form of Jan Dhan, Aadhaar and Mobile (JAM) trinity and other digital initiatives of the government, Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) is creating a seamless online platform through the provision of a wide-range of data, information and infrastructure services, duly leveraging open, interoperable, standards-based digital systems while ensuring the security, confidentiality and privacy of health-related personal information.
  • Under the ABDM, citizens will be able to create their ABHA (Ayushman Bharat Health Account) numbers, to which their digital health records can be linked. This will enable creation of longitudinal health records for individuals across various healthcare providers, and improve clinical decision making by healthcare providers. The mission will improve equitable access to quality healthcare by encouraging use of technologies such as telemedicine and enabling national portability of health services.
  • The pilot of ABDM was completed in the six Union Territories of Ladakh, Chandigarh, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu, Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep with successful demonstration of technology platform developed by the NHA. During the pilot, digital sandbox was created in which more than 774 partner solutions are undergoing integration. As on 24th February 2022, 17,33,69,087 Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts have been created and 10,114 doctors and 17,319 health facilities have been registered in ABDM.
  • Not only will ABDM facilitate evidence-based decision making for effective public health interventions, but it will also catalyse innovation and generate employment across the healthcare ecosystem.

National Science Day

  • The day is celebrated every year on 28th February to commemorate the discovery of the ‘Raman Effect’. On this day, Indian Physicist Sir C.V. Raman announced the discovery of the ‘Raman Effect’ for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1930.
  • In 1986, Government of India designated 28 February as National Science Day. The day is aimed at spreading the message of importance of science and its application in human life.
  • This year the theme of the National Science Day is- Integrated Approach in Science and Technology for Sustainable Future. On the occasion, theme-based science communication activities are carried out all over the country.
  • Sharing his thoughts in his Mann Ki Baat programme yesterday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on this Science Day, has urged all the families to start with small efforts to develop a scientific temperament in their children.
  • As part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, a week-long commemoration titled Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate which has been organised from 22nd of February simultaneously in 75 locations across the country will conclude today. The valedictory function which coincides with National Science Day will be held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. On the occasion, National Science Communication Awards to this year’s awardees, and prizes to the winners of various contests held as part of the Mahotsav would be presented.

Operation Ganga

  • ‘Operation Ganga’ is the initiative launched by the government of India to bring back Indians stranded in Ukraine. Under this, India has already successfully brought back more than 1,000 of its nationals from the country.
  • It has also set up 24×7 control centers to assist in the evacuation of Indians through the border crossing points with Hungary, Poland, Romania, and the Slovak Republic.
  • A Twitter handle, ‘OpGanga Helpline’, has also been dedicated to the mission, where all information regarding the evacuation process and advisories of embassies are shared to keep everyone up-to-date.
  • India operated its first evacuation flight under Operation Ganga and brought back 219 Indians from Romania’s capital Bucharest to Mumbai on Saturday evening.
  • The second evacuation flight carrying 250 nationals landed in Delhi on Sunday. The third flight evacuated 240 Indians from Hungarian capital Budapest, whereas the fourth and fifth flight flew 198 and 249 more passengers from Bucharest to Delhi.
  • External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said the sixth flight under Operation Ganga left for Delhi from Budapest with 240 Indian nationals on Monday.
  • Even as Air India flights were being used to carry out the rescue initiative, Spicejet, Indigo and Air India Express have now joined the mission.

Madhabi Puri: New Chairperson Of SEBI

  • Ms Madhabi Puri has been appointed as the new chairperson of market regulator SEBI.
  • She is the first woman chairperson of the Securities and Exchange Board of India.
  • Ms Puri is the former head of ICICI Securities, also served in SEBI as a Whole Time Member. She will replace Ajay Tyagi as his term ends on Monday.
