Indian Army Implements RFID of Ammunition Stock

  • The Indian Army commenced implementation of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tagging of its ammunition inventory.
    • The first consignment of RFID tagged ammunition, comprising 3 lots of 5.56mm ammunition was dispatched from Ammunition Factory Khadki to Central Ammunition Depot Pulgaon.
    • The RFID implementation has been steered by the Ordnance Services Directorate of the Indian Army, in conjunction with Munitions India Limited Pune.

Atal Tunnel Recognised As ‘Longest Highway Tunnel

  • Atal Tunnel has officially been certified by the World Book of Records, as the ‘World’s Longest Highway Tunnel above 10,000 Feet’, during a landmark ceremony on 09 February 2022, in New Delhi.
  • The 9.02 km long, strategically significant, Atal Tunnel, that runs under the ‘Rohtang Pass’ was constructed on the Manali – Leh Highway.

NAVAL INVESTITURE CEREMONY – 2022 WNC

  • The Naval Investiture Ceremony – 2022 for the Western Naval Command (WNC) was held in Mumbai.
  • Commander Dhanush Menon & Haridas Kundu MCA-II have been conferred the Nau Sena Medal (Gallantry) while Commodore Anil Marya has conferred the Nau Sena Medal (Devotion to Duty).

US Arms Sale to Taiwan Is Gross Interference: China

  • The Chinese Defence Ministry warned the US against selling arms to Taiwan, saying that this act constitutes a blatant interference in China’s internal affairs.
  • US approved a USD 100 million sales of equipment and services to Taiwan to “sustain” and “improve” the Patriot missile defence system.
  • China-Taiwan Issue:
  • China and Taiwan separated amid civil war in 1949 and China consider Taiwan part of its territory to be taken control of by force if necessary.
  • Taiwan’s leaders say that Taiwan is a sovereign state.
  •  In 1980 China and Taiwan started improving in the 1980s. China put forward a formula, known as “one country, two systems “.
  • Strategic and Defense Support to Taiwan by the US:
  • Taiwan has sought to improve its defenses with the purchase of US weapons, including upgraded F-16 fighter jets, armed drones, rocket systems, and Harpoon missiles.
  • A US aircraft carrier group led by the warship Theodore Roosevelt has entered the South China Sea to ensure freedom of the seas and build partnerships that foster maritime security.
  • India’s Stand on the Issue:
  • Since 1949, India has accepted the “One China” policy that accepts Taiwan and Tibet as part of China.
  • However, India uses the policy to make a diplomatic point, i.e., if India believes in the “One China” policy, China should also believe in a “One India” policy.

Japanese Navy Conducts Ex with US In China Sea

  • The Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force announced that it had conducted a four-day exercise with the US Navy in the East China Sea to boost the joint deterrence capabilities.
  • US Navy including the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln at the East China Sea and West Pacific to strengthen the capability of Japan-US Alliance for effective deterrence and response “.
