GTO tasks are considered the most energetic and fun-loving physical task among all other SSB tasks. This task brings more excitement as in this; candidates can perform with the whole group. When we talk about the GTO task, the consequences are different when it comes between freshers and repeaters. Looking at the general trend, the GTO of freshers is more calm, polite, and sophisticated than the repeaters. The repeaters group is more likely to be a fish market as the case is different for freshers. This makes it easier for a fresher to outshine his/her skill in the GTO tasks. Here I am providing ten tips that a fresher can opt to perform well in GTO tasks:
1. Be a good listener
At the starting of every task, GTO will give you full introductions about it. First, you should listen to all the instructions properly as it will help you to be more clear with your task. During the group discussions too, listen to everybody carefully as it will help you be more active during the task. Not only this, if you will listen to other’s points carefully, then it will be easy for you to frame your sentences too.
2.Perform cleverly
During the group discussions, there will be many times when everybody is speaking, and so much rush is created. In that case, instead of just jumping into the fish market, try to find out the small pauses which occur and then start conveying your points. For this, you need to be patient and clever. This will increase your efficiency in the group.
3. Do not break rules
Initially, GTO tells about the rules of PGT, FGT, snake rase, and other tasks. So it is advisable to perform the task carefully and try not to break any of the rules. But if by chance some rule is broken by you, you then repeat it by yourself; otherwise, it will surely give a bad impression of yours to the GTO. Never feel shame to accept your mistake; on the other hand, accept it and perform it correctly.
4.Express well
In the GTO, normally, each candidate gets very little time to talk. So either it is group discussions or the outdoor tasks be specific with what you are saying and try to express well. The good you express will ease the working of the whole group, and the tasks will be completed on time. Try to be crisp with your content and express things more convincingly.
5.Stamina
Though it is not a compulsion that if your stamina is good, then only you will be good at GTO. But for genuine reasons as you are going to join the Defence Forces, you are expected to be physically fit, which will also impress GTO. With the good stamina, you will be able to lead in the Snack Race, and you will be doing a higher number of individual obstacles that will give you an edge over others.
6.Practice with rope
When the fresher candidates directly first-time tie ropes at SSB, it becomes difficult for them to do it properly. So, before coming to SSB, the candidates should start practising with rope at their home itself and learn the various knots which they can use while performing the tasks. As if they will practice before it surely will help them on the practical grounds.
7. Be observative
Whenever you perform the Full Group Task, the command task, and other tasks too, try to be as observative as you can. Always scroll your eyes around the obstacles and find different and effective ways to cross the obstacle. It will also help you in the command task as there GTO frequently demands unique and different ideas for the same obstacles.
8. YouTube videos
Watching different obstacles on YouTube will surely give you an idea of how the real obstacles are. Not only this, but you can also try solving them in your mind by Seeing the video as it will surely help you to get a good practice, and by doing that, you will always be ahead of others during the practical work.
9. Be Helpful to others
There will be many situations during the outdoor tasks like Snake Race, FGT, where your colleagues will need your help. Sometimes, they will need help to climb the wall or to pass the balli. In that case, be the first one to help your friends and do the task completely. This shows your helping nature.
10.Think and speak
It is a general problem among the candidates that whenever they are not getting anything in mind, they start repeating what others have said before in the group discussions and the outdoor tasks too. So, I will advise that you do not blindly do this and think before you speak. As we never know what GTO is noticing, so be careful while saying anything.
The qualities assessed by the GTO here are team spirit, leadership qualities, positive attitude, social behaviour, cooperation, helpful nature, thought process and confidence. Try to be more active in the group and do not show over smartness; otherwise, it will not be a good point about yourself.
