UPI123pay And Digisaathi

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has launched a new UPI service for feature phones called UPI123Pay for non-internet users to make digital payments, also launched a 24×7 helpline for digital payments called ‘Digisaathi’.
  • ‘Digisaathi’ has also been set up by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to provide users with automated responses on information related to digital payment products and services. Presently it is available in English and Hindi language.
  • The new service for feature phones will enable individuals to make direct payments to others without smartphones and internet.
  • Users can initiate payments to friends and family, pay utility bills, recharge the FAST Tags of their vehicles, pay mobile bills and also allow users to check account balances.
  • It will allow customers to use feature phones for almost all transactions except scan and pay.
  • UPI123Pay will benefit an estimated 40 crore feature phone users and enable them to undertake digital payments in a secure manner. This will bring non-smartphone users under the digital payment system.

MSME Idea Hackathon 2022

  • Shri Narayan Rane launches MSME Innovative Scheme (Incubation, Design and IPR) & MSME IDEA HACKATHON 2022 under MSME Champions Scheme.
  • MSME Innovative is a holistic approach to unify, synergize and converge 3 sub-components and interventions with a single purpose. MSME Innovative is a new concept for MSMEs with a combination of innovation in incubation, design intervention and by protecting IPR in a single mode approach to create awareness amongst MSMEs about India’s innovation and motivate them to become MSME Champions.
  • This will act as a hub for innovation activities facilitating and guiding development of ideas into viable business proposition that can benefit society directly and can be marketed successfully.
  • Incubation: The primary objective of the scheme is to promote and support untapped creativity and to promote adoption of latest technologies in MSMEs that seek the validation of their ideas at the proof-of-concept level.
  • Design: The objective of this component is to bring Indian manufacturing sector and Design expertise/ Design fraternity on to a common platform.
  • IPR (Intellectual Property Rights): The objective of the scheme is to improve the IP culture in India with a view to enhance the awareness of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) amongst the MSMEs and to encourage creative intellectual endeavor in Indian economy.

1st Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal Commissioned

  • In pursuance to Prime Minister’s vision “Gati Shakti” and Ministry of Railways’ Policy regarding ‘Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal’ (GCT), Asansol division of Indian Railways has successfully commissioned private siding of Maithan Power Limited at Thaparnagar.
  • This is the FIRST such GCT commissioned in Indian Railways since publication of GCT policy in Dec.’2021.
  • The Maithan Power Project was initiated in the year 2009 and subsequently the power generation was started in the year 2011.
  • Till now the requirement of coal to the power project was being made through road which is expected to convert into 120 inward coal rakes per month.
  • Also 02 to 04 outward rakes of Fly Ash is projected to be handled from the siding. This will enhance Railways’ earnings by approximately Rs. 11 crores per month.
  • The location is in the vicinity of industrial and mining area and the future prospect of the siding is promising.

Upper Age Limit For Appearing In NEET- UG Removed

  • The National Medical Commission (NMC) has removed the upper age limit for appearing in the medical undergraduate entrance exam–NEET-UG examination. In a letter addressed to the National Testing Agency (NTA), the Commission asked the agency to remove the maximum age criteria from the information bulletin of National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) Undergraduate (UG) examination.
  • The letter said, it has been decided in the 4th NMC meeting that there should not be any fixed upper age limit for appearing in the NEET-UG examination. Therefore, the information bulletin may be modified accordingly. It said, the process for official notification to suitably amend the regulations on Graduate Medical Eduction 1997 to this effect has been initiated.
  • The National Medical Commission is the top regulatory body of medical education in the country.
  • Earlier, the age limit was 25 years for general category candidates and 30 years in the case of reserved category candidates.

P V Sindhu Bows Out Of German Open

  • In German open  badminton, two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu suffered a shock defeat to lower-ranked Zhang Yi Man of China in the second round to bow out of the German Open Super 300 badminton tournament  today .
  • The seventh seed Sindhu, a 2019 World Champion, lost 14-21, 21-15, 14-21 to Zhang in a match that lasted 55 minutes.
  •  However , Kidambi Srikanth moves into the quarterfinals by beating world number 27  Lu Guang Zu. During the match he outclassed his Chinese opponent in three tight games, 21-16, 23-21, 21-18 in 67 minutes.

Pal-Dadhvav Massacre

  • Gujarat government marked 100 years of the Pal-Dadhvav killings, calling it a massacre “bigger than the Jallianwala Bagh”.
  • Earlier, Bihar Chief Minister announced that 15th February would be commemorated as “Shahid Diwas” in memory of the 34 freedom fighters who were killed by police in Tarapur town (now subdivision) of Bihar’s Munger district 90 years ago.
  • What Was The Movement About: The Pal-Dadhvav massacre took place on 7th March, 1922, in the Pal-Chitariya and Dadhvaav villages of Sabarkantha district, then part of Idar state (Now Gujrat).
  • The day was Amalki Ekadashi, which falls just before Holi, a major festival for tribals.
  • Villagers from Pal, Dadhvav, and Chitariya had gathered on the banks of river Heir as part of the ‘Eki movement’, led by one Motilal Tejawat.
  • The movement was to protest against the land revenue tax (lagaan) imposed on the peasants by the British and feudal lords.
  • Nearly 200 bhils under the leadership of Tehawat (their Leader) lifted their bows and arrows. But, the Britishers opened fire on them. Nearly 1,000 tribals (Bhils) fell to bullets.
  • While the British claimed some 22 people were killed, the Bhils believe 1,200-1,500 of them died.
