International Day Of Human Space Flight

  • The International Day of Human Space Flight is the annual celebration, held on 12 April, of the anniversary of the first human space flight by Yuri Gagarin (USSR). It was proclaimed at the 65th session of the United Nations General Assembly on 7 April 2011, a few days before the 50th anniversary of the flight.
  • Yuri Gagarin crewed the Vostok 1 mission in 1961, completing one orbit around Earth over 108 minutes in the Vostok 3KA spacecraft, launched on a Vostok-K rocket from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, USSR.
  • In the Soviet Union, 12 April was commemorated as Cosmonautics Day since 1963, and is still observed in Russia and some former Soviet states. Yuri’s Night, also known as “World Space Party,” is an international observance initiated in the United States in 2001, on the 40th anniversary of Gagarin’s flight.
  • Also commemorated on this date is the first Space Shuttle launch, STS-1 of Columbia on 12 April 1981, exactly 20 years after the first human spaceflight.

Mahatma Jyotiba Remembered On His Phule Jayanti

  • April 11 is celebrated each year as Jyotiba Phule Jayanti in the country in honor of Jyotirao Govindrao Phule, the social activist and reformer from Maharashtra.
  • Phule worked towards the eradication of untouchability and the caste system in India. Along With his wife, Savitribai, he sowed seeds for women’s education in India.
  • Phule was born 195 years ago on April 11, 1827. He founded his first school for girls 172 years ago in Pune. He created the Satyashodhak Samaj, Society of Truth Seekers which aimed to achieve equal rights. He fought against female infanticide and launched a large campaign to get rid of a water crisis.

PM-DAKSH Yojana

  • The government has said that around two lakh 71 thousand persons will be trained over five years under Pradhan Mantri Dakshta Aur Kushalta Sampann Hitgrahi, PM-DAKSH Yojana. The scheme aims to increase the skill levels of the target youth by providing for long-term and short-term skills, followed by settlement in employment and self-employment.
  • In 2020-21, the existing scheme of Assistance for Skill Development of Other Backward Classes, Economically Backward Classes was modified as a Central Sector Scheme with the inclusion of Scheduled Castes and Sanitation workers and was renamed as PM- DAKSH Yojana.
  • Nearly 74 thousand persons have been trained and more than 17 thousand got placement in 2020-21 and 2021-22. Under the scheme, free-of-cost training will be provided by the government for the trainees.
  • The stipend of one thousand to one thousand five hundred rupees per month per trainee will be given for trainees having 80 percent and above attendance in short-term and long-term training. Trained candidates will be provided placement after assessment and certification.
  • The scheme will be implemented through three Public Sector Undertakings, of the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment. These are National Scheduled Castes Finance and Development Corporation (NSFDC), National Backward Classes Finance and Development Corporation (NBCFDC), and National Safai Karamcharis Finance and Development Corporation (NSKFDC).
  • Candidates in the age group 18 to 45 years belonging to Scheduled Castes, Other Backward Classes, Economically Backward Classes, Transgender community, Safai Karamcharis can apply for the training program under PM-DAKSH. The training is largely intended for rural artisans, and domestic and sanitation workers.

Pariksha Parv 4.0

  • Taking inspiration from Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi’s “Pariksha Pe Charcha”, and continuing its endeavor towards making examinations a joyful activity, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) will be celebrating Pariksha Parv- 4.0 from 11th April, 2022 to 31st May, 2022. NCPCR has been celebrating exams with its campaign ‘Pariksha Parv’ since 2019, intending to change the outlook of children towards exams stress and overcome their anxiety before exam result at a platform.
  • Pariksha Parv 4.0 is an endeavor for providing a platform for students, parents and teachers to share their thoughts and get guidance and important tips from the experts. In stressful times, talking about and sharing the uneasy and confusing thoughts would help mitigate stress and anxiety of students to a great extent.
  • This year, a multi-pronged approach shall be followed with the objective of reaching out to teachers and parents in addition to children. Pariksha Parv4.0 will include the following activities:
  • i) Live streaming sessions from 11th April, 2022 to 31st May, 2022 on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube of NCPCR and YouTube of Doordarshan National and New India Junction to enable students to interact with experts to reduce their exam stress and worries before exam results.
  • ii)  SAMVEDNA- (1800-121-2830) is a toll-free Tele counseling service of NCPCR by trained Counsellors for COVID related stress which will now be extended for students to cope up with exam and result related queries, stress and anxiety.

State Energy And Climate Index: NITI Aayog

  • Gujarat, Kerala, And Punjab Have Emerged As The Top Three Performers States In The NITI Aayog’s State Energy And Climate Index (SECI). NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant Today Released The State Energy And Climate Index, SECI- Round One In New Delhi. The Top Three Performers Among The Smaller States Are Goa, Tripura, And Manipur.
  • The Report Will Be Useful For The States And UTs To Plan Better Policies And Efficiently Manage Their Energy Resources Given The Changing Climate.
  • The Report Aims To Rank States And Union Territories On Six Parameters. These Are Discoms’ Performance,  Access, Affordability And Reliability Of Energy, Clean Energy Initiatives, Energy Efficiency, Environmental Sustainability, And New Initiatives.

4th India – USA 2+2 Dialogue

  • The fourth India-US 2+ 2 Ministerial Dialogue will take place from April 10-15.
  • The Indian delegation will be led by Home Minister Rajnath Singh, and External Affairs Minister Jaishankar, and the US will be represented by Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of Defence Llyod Austin.
  • The dialogue would enable both sides to undertake a comprehensive review of cross-cutting issues in the India-US bilateral agenda related to foreign policy, defense, and security to provide strategic guidance and a vision for further consolidating the relationship.
  •  this year’s event will celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations and reaffirm the importance of India’s US Comprehensive and Global Strategic Partnership in ensuring international peace and security. It will reaffirm the shared commitment to a free, open, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.
  • The inaugural India-US Ministerial 22 Dialogue was held in September 2018 in New Delhi.
  • PM Modi holds a virtual meeting with US President Joe Biden; To review Bilateral ties and the Indo-Pacific region and global issues of mutual interest.

RBI Proposes Card-less Cash Withdrawal Facility

  • While announcing the monetary policy, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das said RBI has proposed to make card-less cash withdrawal facility available across all banks and ATM networks using the Unified Payments Interface (UPI).
  • RBI Governor said the absence of need for a card to initiate cash withdrawal transactions would help in containing frauds like card skimming, card cloning, etc.
  • However, Governor Shaktikanta Das clarified credit & debit cards will be continued.
  • Under the cardless cash withdrawal facility, individuals can withdraw cash without using any debit card at Automated teller machines (ATMs). The cardless withdrawal request can be initiated for a minimum of ₹100 per transaction and up to a maximum of ₹10,000 per day or ₹25,000 per month for a beneficiary while the limits are subject to change as per regulatory guidelines.
