PM Modi Meets Three Services Chiefs
- On a day when the Cabinet Committee on Security met to discuss the security preparedness and global situation in view of the Ukraine crisis, the three services chiefs also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
- The three services chiefs along with the other senior national security brass met the Prime Minister and briefed him on the security scenarios in and around the country.
- The meeting comes at a time when the Ukrainian crisis is going on and that will have both direct and indirect impacts on the country as both sides have close ties with India.
- Meanwhile, during the CCS meeting attended by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, NSA Ajit Doval, the Prime Minister was briefed on the latest developments and different aspects of India’s security preparedness in the border areas as well as in the maritime and air domain, the Prime Minister’s Office said in a release.
- The Prime Minister was also briefed on the latest developments in Ukraine, including the details of Operation Ganga to evacuate Indian nationals, along with some citizens of India’s neighbouring countries, from Ukraine.
ARMY CHIEF COMPLIMENTS RIMC ON Founder’s Day
- The Rashtriya Indian Military College Dehradun is celebrating its centennial Founder’s Day on 13 March 2022.
- In a message to the institution, Gen MM Naravane, Chief of Army Staff complimented and acknowledged the stellar contribution of the RIMC and the Alumni in the service of the Nation for the last one hundred years.
- He also complimented the College staff for keeping the institution fully open and functional during the COVID pandemic.
- The COAS urged Cadets to prepare for future leadership roles and challenges which will be shaped by rapid changes in technology.
- Expressing confidence on the preparations made by the College to welcome and integrate girl cadets into the folds of the prestigious institution, the COAS remarked that “Girls joining the College would be its Centennial moment”
Piyush Goyal Calls Upon Startups To Help India Become Self-reliant
- Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal on Sunday called for startups to help India become self-reliant in Energy and Defence sectors while citing an example of the COVID-19 pandemic which was converted into an opportunity.
- During the event, Goyal also listed several illustrations where the Startups could provide solutions to resolve problems and assured the startups that the government was listening to their needs and its doors are open round the clock.
- India’s Startup Ecosystem:
- Today, India is the third-largest start-up ecosystem globally (by number of start-ups) with more than 15,000 start-ups established in 2020, up from 5000 in 2010. The underlying enablers of this startup ecosystem include smartphone and internet penetration, cloud computing, application programming interfaces, and a national payments stack in place.
- India currently stands third in the global list of the number of companies that have attained unicorn status (well behind the US and China, but ahead of the UK and Germany.).
- Against a cumulative number of 33 unicorns, from 2011 to 2020, the year 2021 alone has seen the emergence of 41 startup unicorns.
New Air-launched Version of Brahmos Would Be Able To Targets At 800 Km
- India is developing a new air-launched version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile which would be able to strike at enemy targets at more than 800 km.
- The missile earlier had the capability of hitting targets at around 300 kilometers after being released from a Su-30MKI combat aircraft.
- “The range of the BrahMos missile has been increased already and with the advantage of being airborne at high altitudes, the missile can travel a longer distance and can hit targets at 800 km and beyond.”
- The BrahMos missile was recently in the limelight after one of it was misfired due to a technical malfunction from an Indian Air Force unit during a Command Air Staff Inspection (CASI) there.
- The Indian Air Force has equipped around 40 of its Su-30 combat aircraft with the BrahMos cruise missiles which can cause heavy destruction in enemy camps.
US Warns China of Consequences For Helping Russia Bypass Sanctions
- US National Security Adviser (NSA) Jake Sullivan on Sunday said that Washington has communicated to Beijing that it would take serious action against China if Beijing helped Russia bypass Western sanctions.
- According to Sullivan, the US believes that China was aware in advance of what Washington describes as an “invasion” of Ukraine.
