Global Girlhood Report 2021
- Save the Children (Global NGO) released the Global Girlhood Report 2021: Girls Right in Crisis.
- West and Central Africa has the highest rate of child marriage in the world.
- Child marriage kills more than 60 girls a day globally, 26 girls a day in West and Central Africa and six girls a day in South Asia.
- South Asia is followed by East Asia and the Pacific and Latin American and the Caribbean.
- The deaths are majorly caused from pregnancy and childbirth resulting from child marriage.
- With school closures, health services under strain or closed, and more families being pushed into poverty, women and girls face an increased risk of violence during lengthy lockdowns.
- A further 10 million girls are now expected to marry by 2030, leaving more girls at risk of dying.
TRIFED is working to get GI tag for 177 potential Tribal Products
- TRIFED markets 56 GI tagged products, owing to their tribal origin/involvement, from among the 300+ registered Indian GIs.
- GI registration of 21 potential products has already been initiated under the mentorship of Padma Shree Dr. Rajnikant Dwivedi. This will increase the number of GI products marketed by TRIFED to 77 GI products.
- TRIFED in association with MEA aims at promoting the rich tribal culture and its heritage on a global platform through Indian Consulates abroad.
- The ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ corner in the High Commissions of India is being set up as part of a global initiative.
CRISP-M tool for Mahatma Gandhi NREG Scheme
- Climate Resilience Information System and Planning (CRISP-M) tool for Mahatma Gandhi NREG Scheme launched
- The MGNREGS is already being used as a mechanism to deliver climate resilience in various projects, says Shri Giriraj Singh
- The implementation of CRISP-M will open new possibilities for Rural communities to deal with climate change
- Pilot project for Climate Resilient program started in 7 districts – Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Rajasthan, MP, UP and Jharkhand
Malabar Phase II in Bay of Bengal
- INS Ranvijay (D55) and INS Satpura (F48) are participating in Multilateral Maritime Ex Malabar Phase II in Bay of Bengal. The Exercise has the participation of nine ships including US Aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), Japanese Helicopter Carrier JS Kaga (DDH 184), USS Lake Champlain (CG 57), USS Stockdale (DDG 106), HMAS Sirius (O266), HMAS Ballarat FFH 155) and JS Marasame (DD 101).
- The Second Phase of the exercise is focusing on advanced surface and anti-submarine warfare exercises, seamanship evolution and weapon firings.
- The Indian Navy will be participating in the second phase of Malabar exercise from October 12-15, along with the US Navy (USN), Japanese Maritime Self Defence Force (JMSDF), and the Royal Australian Navy (RAN).
Cabinet approves affiliation of 100 schools with Sainik School Society
- Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the proposal on October 12, 2021.
- In line with the approval, affiliated Sainik Schools will be launched under Sainik Schools Society of Ministry of Defence.
- These Schools will function as an exclusive vertical and will be distinct and different from existing Sainik Schools.
- In the first phase, government has proposed that, 100 affiliate partners will be drawn from States, NGOs, and Private partners.
- These schools were affiliated in line with the National Education Policy. Government has also decided to provide an increased focus on value-based education which will enable children to develop pride in rich culture and heritage of India. It will also develop effective leadership among them with discipline, character, sense of national duty & patriotism.
Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin vaccine for children aged between 2-18 years old
- The Subject Expert Committee on Covid-19 has approved the “emergency use” of Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin vaccine for children aged between 2-18 years old.
- Phase-2 and Phase-3 trials of the Covaxin vaccine by Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech on children below the age of 18 years in the months of September.
- Trial data was submitted to the Drugs and Comptroller General of India (DCGI) in October 2021.
- Trial was done by diving children into three groups. The first group was between 12 -18 years, second group was between 6- 12 years while the third age group was between 2-6 years.
Philately Day 2021
- The National Philately Day was celebrated on 13 October 2021 throughout the country.
- The Philately is the study of postage stamps and postal history.
- The day also marks the collection, appreciation and research activities on stamps and other philatelic products.
- India Post celebrates Philately Day as part of National Postal Week and Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.
- 103 special covers on Unsung Heroes of India issued by 22 Postal Circles across country.
