Draft National Medical Devices Policy 2022
- Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP), Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers has released an Approach Paper for the Draft National Policy for the Medical Devices, 2022.
- Features:
- Regulatory streamlining in order to optimize regulatory processes and multiplicity of agencies for enhanced ease of doing business, along with harmonization with global standards to ensure standardization (ensuring the safety of devices).
- Building Competitiveness through fiscal and financial support for stimulating the development of the local manufacturing ecosystem with private sector investments.
- Infrastructure Development to provide a best-in-class physical foundation, including medical devices parks with common facilities such as testing centers, to improve cost competitiveness and enhance the attraction of domestic manufacturers.
- Facilitating R&D and Innovation with a focus on enhanced collaboration in innovation and R&D projects, global partnerships, and joint ventures among key stakeholders to bridge the gap between academic curriculum and industry requirements.
- Human Resource Development to ensure relevant curriculum at higher education level, skilling of various stakeholders, creation of future-ready HR with required skill sets across the innovation value chain.
- Awareness Creation and Brand Positioning in creating awareness and positioning India as a hub for manufacturing of medical devices as part of the “Make in India, Make for the World” initiative.
37th Foundation Of National Crime Records Bureau
- 37th Foundation Day of National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) was celebrated (11th March 1986).
- NCRB, headquartered in New Delhi, was set up in 1986 under the Ministry of Home Affairs to function as a repository of information on crime and criminals to assist the investigators in linking crime to the perpetrators.
- It was set up based on the recommendations of the National Police Commission (1977-1981) and the MHA’s Task Force (1985).
- The Bureau has been entrusted to maintain the National Database of Sexual Offenders (NDSO) and share it with the States/UTs on regular basis.
The Sikh New Year Starts
- Nanakshahi calendar is used in Sikhism. The year begins with the month of Chet, with 1 Chet corresponding to March 14.
- The Nanakshahi calendar is a tropical solar calendar used in Sikhism. It is based on the “Barah Maha”, a composition composed by the Sikh gurus reflecting the changes in nature conveyed in the twelve-month cycle of the year. The year begins with the month of Chet, with 1 Chet corresponding to 14 March.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday greeted people at the start of the Sikh New Year and wished that the teachings of Guru Sahibs keep illuminating the world with their brightness.
Over 731 Lakh Tonnes Of Paddy Procured In Kharif
- Government has said that more than 731 lakh tonnes of paddy has been procured in Kharif Marketing Season 2021-22. Consumer Affairs Ministry said, over one crore three lakh farmers have been benefited from the procurement with Minimum Support Price value of over one lakh 43 thousand crore rupees. It said, the paddy procurement is progressing smoothly at MSP from farmers, as it was done in previous years.
- The Ministry said, paddy has been procured from the procuring States and Union Territories of Chandigarh, Gujarat, Assam, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Telangana, Rajasthan, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, Maharashtra, Puducherry, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh.
25 Years Of TRAI Act
- Communication Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw today inaugurated a seminar on 25 Years of TRAI Act: The Way Forward for Stakeholders in New Delhi. TRAI Act was enacted in 1997 to regulate the telecommunications sector in India.
- It also provided for a mechanism of dispute resolution among the stakeholders of telecom sector.
- Speaking on the occasion, Ashwini Vaishnaw said that Antyodaya and inclusive development is the first and foremost philosophy behind the decisions and initiatives of the government and with this thought the government wants to narrow down the digital divide in the country. He said, Aatmanirbhar Bharat is the second dominant philosophy guiding the strategy and approach of government.
- Mr Vaishnaw said, 4 G technology stack has been developed by Indian brains in record 14 months with fraction of costs compared to the other systems have been developed. The Minister highlighted the role of Indian institutions and scientists in development of 5-G core. He stated that India has started working on 6G technology so that we can take lead in 6 G and can set the direction for the whole world.
405 Airports Under Udan Scheme
- The Ministry of Civil Aviation has launched Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) – UDAN (Ude Deshka Aam Nagrik) on 21-10-2016 to stimulate regional air connectivity and making air travel affordable to the masses.
- UDAN is a market driven scheme. An airport which is included in the awarded routes of UDAN and requires upgradation/development for commencement of RCS operations, is developed under “Revival of unserved and underserved airports” scheme.
- Airports Authority of India(AAI), the Implementing Agency has identified 154 RCS airports including 14 water aerodromes and 36 helipads so far under UDAN for operation of RCS flights. Airports Authority of India(AAI), the Implementing Agency, has awarded 948 routes, from which, 405 routes involving 65 airports including 8 heliports and 2 water aerodromes have been operationalized under UDAN as on 09.03.2022.
9th Meeting Of Hindi Salahkar Samiti
- The ninth meeting of the Hindi Salahkar Samiti of the Rajya Sabha Secretariat was held today at Parliament House Annexe. Speaking on the occasion, Rajya Sabha Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu said that at present the technology has advanced so much that it is possible to translate from English to many regional languages simultaneously.
- He also expressed the view that the language of administration should be regional and education should be imparted in mother tongue. He stressed that there is no opposition to English language but it should not be binding for anyone. Mr Naidu said, all languages are supreme but Hindi should be given importance as it is spoken by large number of the people. He said, people who have received education in mother tongue hold important positions today.
- During the meeting, members of the committee gave their valuable suggestions to promote the use of Hindi Language in the functioning of Rajya Sabha Secretariat. The members expressed that Hindi used in documents and in law and judiciary should be simple.
Bangladesh Top Women On Board Of Listed Companies
- Bangladesh tops the list in South Asia in terms of women on board of listed companies, says a study conducted by International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE).
- According to the latest figures, there was an increase in the percentage of women who are independent directors on listed companies from five percent in 2020 to six percent, despite the impact of COVID-19, which has disproportionately affected women, said a press release issued by the IFC on Monday. A 2020 IFC-DSE study showed at the time around 18 percent of listed company board directors were women, which has remained the same.
- Celebrating International Women’s Day, IFC partnered with the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), UN Women, and United Nations Global Compact for the seventh consecutive year to ‘Ring the Bell for Gender Equality.’ While emphasising women’s role in shaping a more equal future, the annual event highlighted how greater participation of women in the economy can spur sustainable and inclusive growth.
