India-China Corps Commander Meeting: Key Points

The Two sides held a positive, constructive, and in-depth discussion about resolving the remaining difficulties along the Western Sector’s LAC (Line of Actual Control). According to the press release, they discussed ideas in an open and forward-thinking manner in accordance with the leadership’s guidelines.

They decided to resolve the remaining concerns as soon as possible and to keep the momentum of dialogue and negotiations going through military and diplomatic channels. In the meantime, the two sides agreed to keep the border areas peaceful and serene.

On April 23, 2023, the 18th round of the India-China Corps Commander Level Meeting was also held at the Chushul-Moldo border meeting site on the Chinese side. The two parties conducted a candid and in-depth discussion about resolving the pertinent issues along the LAC in the Western Sector in order to restore peace and serenity in the border areas, allowing bilateral relations to progress.

In accordance with the guidance issued by the State Leaders, and following the meeting between the two Foreign Ministers in March 2023, they had an open and candid exchange of opinions. In the meantime, the two parties agreed to ensure security and stability in the Western Sector. The two parties agreed to keep close communication and dialogue through military and diplomatic channels in order to resolve the remaining concerns as soon as possible.

Soon after the two troops clashed, the two countries began holding military negotiations on disengagement and de-escalation of the situation along the LAC in eastern Ladakh. Since then, the two parties have withdrawn from several sites of contention and moved to new locations in order to avoid conflicts and address the issues peacefully.

According to sources, the Indian side is eager to resolve the conflict amicably in order to secure all Indian interests in the region and has committed over 50,000 troops to match the Chinese deployments in the areas adjacent to eastern Ladakh.

The two sides have been highly deployed but have avoided direct clashes, despite the fact that the Indian side does not rule out the prospect of an opponent misadventure near the LAC. In December 2022, India foiled a Chinese Army misadventure in Yang Tse, near Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh.
