Ex Tarang Shakti: Indian Air Force to Host Mega Multilateral Exercise Next Year

Ex Tarang Shakti, India’s largest air exercise, has been postponed until mid-2024 after a number of participating air forces informed the IAF that they would be unable to participate in the wargame if it was performed this year. Twelve air forces are anticipated to participate in the drill. The Indian Air Force has taken part in a number of significant international exercises in recent months.

Next year, the Indian Air Force (IAF) will host a huge multinational military exercise Ex Tarang Shakti that was initially scheduled for October. The exercise is anticipated to include roughly 12 air units, with the goal of improving military collaboration and interoperability, according to the organisers. It will be the largest air exercise ever held in India. The Air Force of France, the United Kingdom, Australia, the United States, and Japan are expected to take part in the exercise.

According to the sources, six countries will engage in the Tarang Shakti with their airborne assets such as fighter fighters, military transport aircraft, and mid-air refuelers, while six additional nations have been invited as spectators. The Indian Air Force has taken part in a number of significant international exercises in recent months. The Indian Air Force sent four Rafale planes, two C-17 aircraft, and two IL-78 mid-air refuelers to France’s Mont-de-Marsan military base in April for a nearly three-week global air exercise.

Last month, four Rafale fighter planes flew a “strategic” mission over the Indian Ocean region for more than six hours, demonstrating their long-range combat capabilities. In April, the Indian and US air forces conducted Exercise Cope India in Kalaikunda, Panagarh, and Agra. In addition to other assets, the US used B1 bomber aeroplanes and F-15 fighter planes in the exercise.
