Atal Pension Yojana Total Enrolments Crossed 3.30 Crore

  • Under the Atal Pension Yojana (APY), a guaranteed pension scheme of Government of India and administered by PFRDA, more than 28 lakhs new APY accounts have been opened during current FY 2021-22. Overall, enrolments under APY has crossed 3.30 crore as on 25th August 2021.
  • The APY allows any Citizen of India between the age group of 18-40 years to join through the bank or post office branches where one has the savings bank account.
  • Under the scheme, a subscriber would receive a minimum guaranteed pension of Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 5,000 per month, depending upon his contribution, from the age of 60 years.
  • The same pension would be paid to the spouse of the subscriber and on the demise of both the subscriber and the spouse, the accumulated pension wealth as accumulated till age 60 of the subscriber is returned to the nominee.

First-ever Nation-wide Quiz on Sports and Fitness

  • Sports Minister Shri Anurag Thakur and Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan launch first-ever nation-wide quiz on sports and fitness
  • The Fit India Quiz will add momentum to building a sports culture in the country with students as its champions. Even NEP 2020 gives special attention to sports-integrated learnings for students to adopt fitness as a lifelong attitude.
  • The nation-wide quiz will give a chance to compete on a national platform and an opportunity to win a total cash prize of more than Rs 3 crores for their schools
  • This Fit India Quiz is part of the central government’s ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ initiative to celebrate 75 years of India’s Independence
  • Tokyo Olympics medalists Neeraj Chopra and P V Sindhu virtually joined the event.

‘NUTRI GARDEN’ Inaugurated

  • Initiating series of programs under month long Poshan Maah 2021, Women and Child Development Minister inaugurates NUTRI GARDEN at All India Institute of Ayurveda.
  • Plantation drive and distribution of plants having health and nutritional benefits was carried out for patients and health care workers like Shatavari, Ashwagandha, Musli and Yashtimadhu. Information brochure of selected plants having nutritive value was also provided to the common public. Ayurvedic classical nutritious recipes representing various states like Sattu drink, Sesame Laddoo, Jhangore Ki Kheer, Niger seeds Laddoo, Amalaki Panaka etc. were also displayed during the event.

Yoga Break Mobile Application

  • As a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebration the APP was launched by Union Minister of Aayush Sarbananda Sonowal.
  • The 5-minute Yoga Break Protocol consists of a very useful Yoga practices devised to de-stress, refresh, and re-focus on work to increase the productivity of individuals at workplace.
  • The concept of Yoga Break is relevant to working professionals across the world. It has been carefully developed by eminent experts under a tested protocol.

Covid-19 Endemicity

  • As per World Health Organization (WHO) India seems to be entering some stage of Covid-19 endemicity where there is low- to moderate-level transmission.
  • An epidemic refers to an outbreak of a disease. An epidemic occurs when a disease is spreading through one or more populations. In contrast, the endemic disease is one that is constantly present in a group or geographic area.
  • Pandemics are worldwide epidemics. A pandemic affects more people and takes more lives than an epidemic.

Odisha’s Kendrapara district

  • Odisha’s Kendrapara district has earned the distinction of being the only district in India where all three species of crocodiles, salt-water, gharial, and mugger, are found.
  • Mugger or Marsh Crocodile: An egg-laying and hole-nesting species, also known to be dangerous.
  • Estuarine or Saltwater Crocodile: Considered as the Earth’s largest living crocodile species, infamous globally as a known maneater.
  • Gharial: Sometimes called gavials, are a type of Asian crocodilian distinguished by their long, thin snouts which resembles a pot (ghara in Hindi).
