UN World Creativity And Innovation Day
- World Creativity and Innovation Day is celebrated on April 21.
- The day is marked to raise awareness about the important roles that innovation and creativity play in every aspect of human development.
- The main idea behind celebrating this day to encourage people to produce multi-disciplinary thinking both at individual and group levels.
- World Creativity and Innovation Day came into existence after the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution to celebrate the day.
- The resolution by UN General Assembly was passed on April 27, 2017, and the first World Creativity and Innovation Day was celebrated in 2018. The day was founded on May 25, 2001 in Toronto, Canada.
- World Creativity and Innovation Day was founded by a Canadian woman named Marci Segal. Marci Segal was studying creativity at the International Center for Studies in Creativity in the year 1977.
- Segal decided to come up with Creativity and Innovation Day after she saw the headline “Canada in Creativity Crisis”, which appeared in the National Post newspaper.
- Segal was of the belief that generating new ideas with the help of creativity and making new decisions can help people in tackling crises.

Civil Services Day 2022
- Every Year On April 21, India Celebrates And Observes National Civil Services Day. The Day Is Celebrated To Mark The Efforts Of The Civil Servants Working Tirelessly And Relentlessly In Different Departments And Organizations In Order To Ensure That The Administrative Machinery Works Smoothly.
- National Civil Services Day Is Also Celebrated To Remind The Civil Servants Across Organizations And Departments, Who Work At Different Levels, That Nothing Is Above The Service Of The Nation And Its Citizens.
- The First National Civil Services Day Was Observed In 2006 And The Ceremony Was Held At Vigyan Bhawan In New Delhi. The Government Of India Evaluates The Work Of Individuals And Organisations And Lauds Their Effort By Presenting Awards. The Prime Minister’s Excellence Award In Public Administration Is Also Presented To The Civil Servants To Honour Their Remarkable Contribution And Service To The Nation.
- The Government Of India Chose April 21 As The Day To Celebrate And Commemorate National Civil Services Day Because On April 21 In 1947, India’s First Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Addressed The Newly Appointed And Formed Administrative Service Officers. Sardar Patel’s Historic Address Was Conducted At The Metcalf House In New Delhi, Wherein He Referred To The Civil Servants As The “Steel Frame Of India”.
PM Awards For Excellence In Public Administration
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said there cannot be any compromise on integrity and unity of the country. He was addressing after conferring Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration on Civil Services Day. Mr Modi said the nation was built by all those who followed the path of innovation with the mantra of ‘Nation First’.
- He said India at 100 should be a watershed moment and the next 25 years should be seen as single-time unit. He said each district in the country should set its objectives and aims for the next 25 years. The Prime Minister said that during the last 8 years, many behavioral changes have been seen among the people due to government campaigns. Mr Modi highlighted that India has created 14 unicorn startups in just three months of 2022. He called this a major achievement for the nation.
- A total of 16 awards for five identified Priority Programmes and for innovations in the sphere of public administration and delivery of services were given this year. The awards have been instituted with a view to recognize the extraordinary and innovative work done by Districts, implementing units, and Central and State organizations for the welfare of common citizens. On the occasion, Prime Minister also released e-books on Priority Programmes and on Innovations comprising of the successes stories on the implementation of the identified priority programmes and Innovations.

- Guru Tegh Bahadur Jayanti Is Being Celebrated To Mark The Birth Anniversary Of The Ninth Guru Of Sikhism, Guru Tegh Bahadur, And This Year Mark The 400th Year Of His Birth.
- Guru Tegh Bahadur Was The Youngest Son Of Guru Hargobind And Is Remembered As The Warrior Guru Who Fought For Religious Freedom. Tegh Bahadur Who Is Widely Regarded As The Saviour Guru Is Also Considered To Be An Honourable Scholar And Poet Who Contributed To The Holy Book Of Sikhism, Guru Granth Sahib.
- The Death Anniversary Of Guru Tegh Bahadur Is Commemorated As Shaheedi Diwas Every Year On November 24. Guru Tegh Bahadur Was Executed On The Orders Of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb And His Death Warrant Was Issued From Red Fort. He Was Killed Near The Premises Where A Gurudwara Stands Now.
- Pm Modi Participate In The Celebrations Of The 400th Prakash Purab Of Guru Tegh Bahadur At Red Fort. Address The Gathering And Released A Commemorative Coin And A Postage Stamp On The Occasion.

National Academy Of Medical Sciences
- The National Academy of Medical Sciences originated as the Indian Academy of Medical Sciences, a registered society, on 21 April 1961, for the promotion of medical education and research in India.
- The academy, housed in NAMS House, New Delhi, started functioning when Jawaharlal Nehru, the then Prime Minister of India inaugurated the institution on 19 December 1961. In 1963, the inaugural convocation was held at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi when Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan addressed the gathering.
- The Academy re-branded itself as the National Academy of Medical Sciences (India) on 16 November 1976.

Kieron Pollard Announces Retirement
- West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard has announced his retirement from international cricket. Pollard, who was the captain of West Indies’ limited-overs teams, played a total of 123 ODIs and 101 T20Is.
- He has been an integral part of the Mumbai Indians team in the Indian Premier League for several years now and was retained by the franchise ahead of the mega auction in February this year.
- He was part of the West Indies team that won the 2012 ICC WT20 and missed out on his second T20 World Cup title in 2016 as he missed the tournament due to injury.
