Indian Navy Showcases Latest Indigenous Acquisitions
- Indian Navy showcased its latest state-of-art indigenously built combat platforms during the 12th edition of the Fleet Review which was also conducted as part of the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence being celebrated as ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’.
- After a 21-Gun Salute and Ceremonial Guard of Honour, the President embarked on the Presidential yacht, INS Sumitra, an indigenously built Naval Offshore Patrol Vessel designated as the Presidential yacht.
- The Hon’ble President also witnessed demonstrations in the form of a composite flypast by 55 aircraft including Chetaks, ALH, Sea Kings, KAMOVs, Dorniers, IL-38SD, P8I, Hawks and MiG 29K.
- The Review was followed by the release of a special First Day Cover and a commemorative stamp by the Hon’ble President in the presence of Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh and Minister of State for Communication Shri Devusinh J Chauhan.
Exercise Eastern Bridge -VI
- The Indian Air Force and Royal Air Force of Oman are scheduled to participate in a bilateral exercise named Eastern Bridge-VI from 21 to 25 February 2022 at Air Force Station Jodhpur.
- This would be the sixth edition of the exercise. It will provide an opportunity to enhance operational capability and interoperability b/w the two Air Forces.
- Exercise promote professional interaction, exchange of experiences & enhancement of operational knowledge.
Gov Has Decided To Continue Umbrella Scheme BIM
- Government has approved the continuation of the Central Sector Umbrella Scheme of “Border Infrastructure and Management” (BIM) over the 15th Finance Commission Cycle from 2021-22 to 2025-26, at a cost of Rs.13,020 crore.
- The BIM scheme will help in the creation of infrastructure such as the construction of border fences, border floodlights, technological solutions, border roads & Border Outposts/Company Operating Bases to secure Indo-Pakistan, Indo-Bangladesh, Indo-China, Indo-Nepal, Indo-Bhutan & Indo-Myanmar borders.
India, France Agree In ILS
- India and France have declared that they are attached to the international law of the sea and will coordinate their positions in multilateral bodies and negotiations to strengthen it and adapt to “new challenges”, amidst China’s aggressive muscle-flexing in the Indo-Pacific.
- According to a roadmap signed by the two countries on the blue economy and ocean governance India and France nurture a high-quality dialogue on maritime security, which enables them to raise strategic issues in the Indo-Pacific.
Beijing Sanctions Lockheed, Raytheon
- China has placed Lockheed Martin Corp and Raytheon Technologies Corp under sanctions over arms sales to Taiwan, the government said on Monday, at least the third time it has announced punishments against the U.S. companies.
- The sanctions are countermeasures against the two companies over a $100-million Feb. 7 arms sale that “undermined China’s security interests, seriously undermined China-U.S. relations and peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait“.
