BRO Conducts Final Blast Concluding All Excavation on Sela Tunnel Project
- The final blast for the 980-meter long Sela Tunnel (Tunnel 1) was conducted by Director General Border Roads (DGBR) Lt Gen Rajeev Chaudhry through an e-ceremony from New Delhi on January 22, 2022.
- The Sela Tunnel Project is in the West Kameng District of Arunachal Pradesh. Once completed, it will be a lifeline as it will provide all-weather connectivity to Tawang.
- The project comprises Tunnel 1, which is a 980 m long single tube tunnel, and Tunnel 2, which is a 1555 m long twin-tube tunnel. Tunnel 2 has one bi-lane tube for traffic and one escape tube for emergencies. It will also be one of the longest tunnels to have been constructed above altitude of 13,000 feet.

‘Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon’ To Be Part of Beating Retreat Ceremony
- The Defence Ministry has included the patriotic song ‘Ae Mere Watan Ke Logo’ in the Beating Retreat ceremony in an effort to make the event more Indian.
- The hymn Abide with Me has been dropped from the event as per the details of the ceremony shared by Indian defence officials.
- The song had become famous after it was sung by noted playback singer Lata Mangeshkar and written by legendary lyricist Kavi Pradeep for the soldiers who laid down their lives in the 1962 war.
Iraq Tightens Security on Border with Syria After IS Militants’ Jailbreak
- Iraq on Saturday tightened security measures on the borderline with neighboring Syria after a jailbreak by militants of the Islamic State (IS) in a Kurdish-controlled prison in Syria’s Hasakah Province.
- On Thursday, a group of IS militants escaped from a prison in the Gweiran neighborhood of Hasakah, followed by violent clashes between the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces and the IS.
