$400 Billion Of Goods Exports
- The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has lauded the farmers, weavers, MSMEs, manufacturers, exporters as India has achieved the ambitious target of $400 Billion of goods exports 9 days ahead of schedule.
- In a tweet, the Prime Minister said.
- “India set an ambitious target of $400 Billion of goods exports & achieves this target for the first time ever. I congratulate our farmers, weavers, MSMEs, manufacturers, exporters for this success.
- This is a key milestone in our AatmaNirbhar Bharat journey. #LocalGoesGlobal”
- The Prime Minister also posted infographics of India achieving the highest ever exports target nine days ahead of the intended deadline. As per the graphic, an average of $46 million worth of exports was done every hour.
- India’s merchandise exports in April-February 2021-22 was $374.81 billion as against $256.55 billion during the year-ago period, registering a growth of 46.09%.
Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Remembered On His Jayanthi
- Ram Manohar Lohia (23 March 1910 – 12 October 1967) Was An Activist In The Indian Independence Movement And A Socialist Political Leader.
- During The Last Phase Of British Rule In India, He Worked With Congress Radio Which Was Broadcast Secretly From Various Places In Bombay Until 1942.
- Lohia was one of the founders of the Congress Socialist Party and editor of its mouthpiece Congress Socialist. In 1936, he was selected by Jawaharlal Nehru as the secretary of the Foreign Department of the All-India Congress Committee (A.I.C.C), the highest body of the Congress Party.
- By the time he quit that responsibility in 1938, Lohia started to develop his own political standpoint by critically examining positions held by the Gandhian leadership of the Congress and the Communists who had poured into the CSP.
- In June 1940, he was arrested and sentenced to a jail term of two years for delivering anti-war speeches. Already released by the end of 1941, Lohia became one of the leading figures of the Central Directorate which clandestinely tried to organize the Quit India revolt, sparked by Gandhi in August 1942. Captured in May 1944, he was incarcerated and tortured in Lahore Fort.
- As one of the last high-security prisoners, Lohia, together with Jayaprakash Narayan, was finally released on 11 April 1946.
- He was the one who gave the idea of sapta Kranti.
Sujalam 2.0 Campaign
- Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has launched the Sujalam 2.0 campaign for greywater management.
- Speaking at a function in New Delhi yesterday, Mr. Shekhawat said, under the Campaign government will mobilize Communities, Panchayats, Schools, Anganwadis to undertake greywater management.
- Over six lakh villages will see intense activity on Solid and Liquid Waste Management. The theme for this year’s campaign is Groundwater: making the invisible visible.
- The Minister said, greywater can be best managed where it is generated and turns into a major management and infrastructure challenge if it is allowed to accumulate and stagnate.
Public Expenditure On Education Increased
- A Record Budget Of More Than One Lakh Crore Rupees Has Been Allocated For The Education Sector For The Upcoming Financial Year 2022-23.
- Public Expenditure On Education Has Grown Continuously In The Country In Recent Years. Public Expenditure On Education Was 4.07 Percent In 2014-15 Which Has Grown To 4.39 Percent Of GDP In 2019-20.
- The Minister Said, The Centre And States Are Working Together To Increase The Public Investment In The Education Sector To Reach Six Percent Of Gross Domestic Product.
7,422 Crore Digital Transactions Taken In CFY
- Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, Rajeev Chandrasekhar said Bharat Interface for Money-Unified Payments Interface (BHIM-UPI) has emerged as the preferred payment mode of the citizens.
- He said it has achieved a record of 452.75 Crore digital payment transactions with the value of 8.27 lakh crore rupees by end of the last month. Covid-19 pandemic has established that digital payments enable access to healthcare as well through contactless payment modes like BHIP-UPI QR code in consonance with the new norm of social distancing.
- On the possibility of increased security breaches, a strong grievance redressal mechanism has been set up by the Government and Reserve bank of India to address the grievances related to cyber financial frauds of the individuals in a time-bound manner. The government as well as RBI have undertaken steps to ensure the safety and security of digital payments.
Bangladesh Most Polluted Country Of The World
- Bangladesh was the most polluted country in the world in 2021, says the World Air Quality Report prepared by the Swiss-based air quality technology company IQAir in its latest report released.
- In terms of particulate matter in the air, Bangladesh recorded an average PM2.5 level of 76.9 micrograms per cubic metre in 2021 against the World Health Organisation (WHO) recommended maximum permissible level of 5 micrograms per cubic metre.
- Earlier, in 2018, 2019 and 2020 also Bangladesh was found to be the most polluted country in the world. However, the PM2.5 level has shown a decline in Bangladesh from 77.1 micrograms per cubic metre in 2020 which was even higher at 83.3 in 2019 and 97.1 in 2018.
- The data reveals that not a single country in the world managed to meet the WHO’s air quality standard in 2021. All over the world, 93 cities reported PM 2.5 levels at 10 times the recommended level.
- Among the cities, Dhaka was the second most polluted city in the world with a PM 2.5 level of 78.1 just below New Delhi which had a PM 2.5 level of 85.1 in 2021.
- IQAir analysed data from 6475 cities across 117 countries for air quality in 2021 to arrive at the conclusion. Countries and regions in East Asia, Southeast Asia, and South Asia suffered from the highest annual average PM2.5 concentration weighted by population.
- In 2021, Central and South Asia had some of the world’s worst air quality and was home to 46 of the world’s 50 most polluted cities. According to the United Nations Environment Programme, 70 percent of global air quality related deaths occur in this region.
- Air pollution is now considered to be the world’s largest environmental health threat, accounting for seven million deaths around the world every year.
- Air pollution causes and aggravates many diseases, ranging from asthma to cancer, lung illnesses and heart disease. The estimated daily economic cost of air pollution has been figured at USD 8 billion or 3 to 4 percent of the gross world product, says the report.
