ALH Mark III Inducted at INS Parundu

  • Two indigenously built Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH) were formally inducted into INS Parundu, Indian Naval Air Station near Uchipuli in Ramanathapuram district
  • The helicopter can be used to undertake armed patrol missions, casualty evacuations, and SAR operations. The helicopter has a state-of-the-art Maritime Patrol Radar and Electro-optical payload which enhances the surveillance capability.
  • The ALH MK III helicopter manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is a maritime role variant that can operate from Naval Ships and Air Stations. The Indian Navy has inducted 16 of these helicopters in the recent past.

Successfully test fired Brahmos Missile In A&NC

  • India today successfully test-fired surface to surface BrahMos supersonic cruise missile in Andaman & Nicobar. Extended range missile hit its target with pinpoint accuracy.
  • BrahMos is a joint venture between the Defence Research and Development Organisation of India (DRDO) and the NPOM of Russia.
  •  BrahMos is named on the rivers Brahmaputra and Moskva.
  • It is a two-stage (solid propellant engine in the first stage and liquid ramjet in the second) missile.
  • It is a multiplatform missile i.e., it can be launched from land, air, and sea and multi capability missile with pinpoint accuracy that works both day and night irrespective of the weather conditions.
  • It operates on the “Fire and Forgets” principle i.e., it does not require further guidance after launch.
  • Brahmos is one of the fastest cruise missiles currently operationally deployed with the speed of Mach 2.8, which is nearly 3 times more than the speed of sound.

Cdt Ridhi Wins 2 Silver Medals in Asian Cup Archery Championship

  • Cdt Ridhi, 7 Har Bn NCC, Ambala Gp brought laurels to NCC by winning 02 Silver medals in Asian Cup Archery Championship held at Phuket Thailand from 12 to 19 March 2022. We wish her the very best in all her future endeavors.

NCC Cdt Preeti Selected for World Cup Women Junior Team

  • Another feather in the cap, Cdt Preeti of Ambala Gp NCC got selected for the World Cup Women Junior Team going to South Africa. The cdt had earlier also been part of the 2019 JLN Hockey Team.

Indian Army Constructs Poly House In Poonch, Trains Villagers

  • The Indian Army of Poonch Brigade constructed a huge poly house in the district’s Seklu village to boost all-weather vegetable cultivation and provided training and awareness to the villagers about the functioning and use of the poly house.
  •  The farmers were provided seeds by the horticulture department. The chief of the department praised the project built by the Indian Army.
  • The poly house has been built under the Indian Army’s ‘Operation Sadbhawana‘.

COSG, Linked to China’s PLA In Financial Mess

  • China Overseas Security Group (COSG), linked to China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) is in a financial mess.
  • The Chinese company COSG used to provide security for overseas Chinese projects under Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), has run into financial troubles as most of the BRI Projects on which it worked has turned out to be unprofitable.
  • More than 100 countries signed agreements with China to cooperate in BRI projects like railways, ports, highways and other infrastructure.
  • It was announced by the Chinese President Xi Jinping-led regime in 2013.
  • China’s BRI has left scores of Lower and Middle-Income Countries (LMIC) saddled with “hidden debts.”

DAC Clears Procurement Of 14 Items of Rs 380 Cr

  • In a path-breaking initiative, Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh, on March 22, 2022, cleared the procurement of 14 items worth Rs 380.43 crore from the Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) startups/MSMEs. These items will be procured by the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force.
  • The DAC also approved the new simplified procedure for procurement from iDEX startups/MSMEs. This would fast-track the procurement from the startups/MSMEs. The procurement cycle from the AON to contract signing will be around 22 weeks as per the new procedure. Suitable incorporation will be made in the Defence Acquisition Procedure 2022.

India An Essential Partner for The US In Quad: US General

  • India is an essential partner for the US in the Quad in realising the shared vision of a free and open Indo-Pacific region, a top Biden administration official has said.
  • India, the US and several other world powers have been talking about the need to ensure a free, open and thriving Indo-Pacific in the backdrop of China’s rising military manoeuvring in the region.
  • China claims nearly all of the disputed South China Sea, though Taiwan, the Philippines, Brunei, Malaysia and Vietnam all claim parts of it. Beijing has built artificial islands and military installations in the South China Sea.

INDIAN NAVY’S CoE AT INS SHIVAJI RECOGNISED AS CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE

  • The Centre of Excellence, INS Shivaji has been recognised as a Centre of Excellence in the field of Marine Engineering by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. The recognition certificate was handed over by Secretary MSDE to Commodore Arvind Rawal, Commanding Officer.
  • Recognition as Centre of Excellence by MSDE is first of its kind for any military organisation and an indication of establishment’s sustained efforts towards skill and technology development.
  • The Centre of Excellence, INS Shivaji was set up in 2014 with a broad mandate including induction of niche technologies for naval applications, undertaking quality research in collaboration with R&D and academic institutes of repute and providing engineering solutions for field level issues.

NAVAL TECHNOLOGY ACCELERATION COUNCIL MEETING

  • Naval Technology Acceleration Council (NTAC) the apex body of the Naval Innovation and Indigenisation Organisation (NIIO) held its 2nd meeting in New Delhi on 23 March 2022. Chaired by VAdm SN Ghormade, Vice Chief of Naval Staff, the NTAC reviewed the ongoing and proposed indigenisation and innovation cases.
  • Indian Navy has been at the forefront of indigenisation with a fully functional and dynamic Directorate of Indigenisation. Additionally, a technology Development Acceleration Cell (TDAC) has been created under NIIO to focus on innovation.
  • Major initiatives towards Indigenisation include industry outreach programmes (conducted at Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar, and Coimbatore), and the proposal set up a center for Indigenisation and Self-Reliance (CISR).
  • To engage young minds in premier educational institutions the ‘Indian Naval Students Technical Engagement Programme’ provides a 5-month online internship to work on naval problem statements. An ‘open challenge’ under IN STEP was announced during the NTAC meeting and will be undertaken in partnership with SIDM and BharatShakti.in. An MoU has been signed b/w the three organisations to this effect.
