187th Raising Day of Assam Rifles

  • General MM Naravane COAS and All Ranks of the Indian Army convey best wishes to All Ranks and Families of Assam Rifles on the occasion of their 187th Raising Day.
  • The Assam Rifles is the oldest branch of the Indian Army, dating back to 1835 under the British Raj, raised under the name Cachar Levy. The present name of “Assam Rifles” has been used since 1917.
  • It is the only paramilitary force with a dual control structure. While the control of the force is with the Indian Army, which is under the Ministry of Defence (MoD). This means that salaries and infrastructure for the force is provided by the MHA, but the deployment, posting, transfer and deputation of the personnel is decided by the Army. All its senior ranks, from DG to IG and sector headquarters are manned by officers from the Army. The force is commanded by Lieutenant General from the Indian Army.

Wings India 2022  

  • On the occasion of Wings India 2022, Team Sarang-the brand ambassadors of the, and one of kind four helicopter military display team in the world participated in one of the largest and one of the most successful events on civil aviation.
  • Wings India 2022, Asia’s largest event on civil aviation, beginning at Begumpet Airport in Hyderabad on Thursday. The four-day biennial event is being organised jointly by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Indian Industry (FICCI).
  • As part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, the theme of the event is “India@75: New Horizon for Aviation Industry”. The focus will be on new business acquisition, investments, policy formation, and regional connectivity.
  • The show will have exhibition, discussions, demonstration, exhibition and flying display by the Sarang team of the Indian Air Force, roundtable/panel discussion on helicopter industry, business aviation, Krishi UDAN, golden age of drones, India-US Roundtable with AMCHAM, drone demonstrations, Global CEOs Forum, and the Wings India awards 2022 ceremony.
  • Brahmos is one of the fastest cruise missiles currently operationally deployed with the speed of Mach 2.8, which is nearly 3 times more than the speed of sound.

  • Cadet Under Officer Divya Jain was honoured in Udaipur by Colonel Akhilesh Khanna, Commanding Officer of 5 Raj Girls Battalion Udaipur.
    • Divya Jain was nominated for this award by the Director-General of NCC on NCC Day in the month of November for her outstanding work and contribution of 3 years.
    • A citation and amount of Rs 2500 was given by Colonel Akhilesh Khanna, Commanding Officer of 5 Raj Girls Battalion Udaipur.

Mod Approves 107 Major Units for Indigenisation

  • In continuous pursuit of self-reliance in defence manufacturing and to minimise imports by DPSUs under ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’, MoD has approved another list of 107 strategically important Line replacement Units (LRUs)/sub-systems with a timeline beyond which there will be an embargo on their import.
  • These will be indigenised in the coming years and will only be procured from Indian Industry after the timelines indicated against each of them in the list.
  • Indigenisation of these items will be taken up by DPSUs under the ‘Make’ category. ‘Make’ Category aims to achieve self-reliance by involving greater participation of Indian industry. Projects involving design and development of equipment, systems, major platforms or upgrades thereof by the industry can be taken up under this category. DPSUs will offer these identified LRUs/Sub-systems for industry led design and development. This will be a great opportunity for the Indian industry to get integrated in the supply chains of manufacturing major defence platforms.

Raksha Mantri Inaugurates BRO Tourism Website  

  • Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh inaugurated the BRO Tourism portal (https://marvels.bro.gov.in) in New Delhi on March 24, 2022.
  • The user-friendly website aims to facilitate e-booking of guided tours to the road infrastructure projects constructed by the BRO.
  • In the initial phase, only e-Booking for a guided tour to Atal Tunnel, Rohtang will be available through the portal. Soon, infrastructure projects in Ladakh, Jammu & Kashmir, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, etc. will be included for guided tours.
  • The world’s highest motorable road at Umling La Pass, state-of-the-art bi-lane Sela Tunnel and Nechiphu Tunnel are among the projects which will be included.

3rd Edition of Exercise ‘Dustlik’ 2022

  • The third edition of India-Uzbekistan Joint Military Exercise- ‘Dustlik’ commenced with an impressive opening ceremony at Yangiarik, Uzbekistan.
  • The ceremony was marked by the unfurling of national flags of both the participant countries followed by their national anthems.
  • The joint exercise would focus on Counter-Terrorism operations in semi-urban terrain under a United Nations Mandate.
  • The third edition of the exercise conducting at Yangiarik, Uzbekistan from March 22 to March 31.

COAS presented the “President’s Colours” To 20,21    DOGRA Regiment

  • Chief of Army Staff General MM Naravane on Thursday presented the President’s colours ‘Nishan’ to the newly raised Infantry battalions during a colour presentation parade at Dogra Regimental Centre in Uttar Pradesh’s Faizabad.
  • The Colour Presentation Parade was also witnessed by General NC Vij (retd) former COAS & Honorary Colonel of The Dogra Regiment, Army Commanders of Southern Command & Central Command along with a large number of serving and retired personnel. After reviewing the parade, the Army Chief appreciated the rich traditions of the Dogra Regiment in all spheres of military activities to include operations, training and sports. The COAS also complimented the newly raised units for their remarkable performance within a short period of time and conveyed his best wishes to all ranks to serve the Nation with pride.
  • General Naravane also interacted with the National Cadet Corps Cadets and school children on the occasion.

India, Oman Discuss Cooperation in Energy, Defence, Space

  • External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Wednesday met his Oman counterpart Sayyid Badr Hamad Hamood Al Busaidi and discussed growing cooperation in various fields including defence, energy, space and science, and technology.
  • The two leaders, who held delegation-level talks, also discussed growing economic cooperation b/w the two countries.

INS Kolkata Participates In DIMDEX  

  • Indian Naval Ship Kolkata participates in DIMDEX 2022, Qatar. Head of Indian delegation Vice Admiral Ajendra Bahadur Singh, Flag Officer Commanding in Chief, Western Naval Command hosted a reception onboard Ship at Hamad Port.
  • In the framework of the deep-rooted friendly ties and multi-faceted and growing cooperation between India and Qatar, the Government of India has deputed a high-level delegation to participate at the Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference (DIMDEX 2022) running until March 23, 2022.
