Reserve Bank Innovation Hub

  • Shaktikanta Das (RBI governor) inaugurated the Reserve Bank Innovation Hub (RBIH) in Bengaluru.
  • It has been set up as a Section 8 company under the Companies Act, 2013 with an initial capital contribution of Rs. 100 crore.
  • It is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the RBI. That aims to create an ecosystem that focuses on promoting access to financial services and products for the low-income population in the country.
  • This is in line with the objective behind the establishment of RBIH i.e., to bring world-class innovation to the financial sector in India, coupled with the underlying theme of financial inclusion.
  • The Hub is expected to build an ecosystem for the development of prototypes, patents, and proofs of concept and promote cross-thinking, spanning regulatory domains and national boundaries.
  • It had plans to identify and mentor start-ups having maximum potential.

October 5 Recommended As National Dolphin Day

  • Standing Committee of the National Board for Wildlife recommends celebrating October 5 as National Dolphin Day
  • Generating awareness & community participation is integral for conservation of the indicator species: Shri Bhupender Yadav
  • Shri Bhupender Yadav chairs 67th Meeting of Standing Committee of the National Board for Wildlife.
  • The Standing Committee discussed several important policy issues and the proposals for wildlife clearances forwarded by the State Governments and the Union Territory administrations.
  • Healthy aquatic ecosystems help in maintaining the overall health of the Planet.
  • Dolphins act as ideal ecological indicators of a healthy aquatic ecosystem and conservation of the Dolphins will, therefore, benefit the survival of the species and, the people dependent on the aquatic system for their livelihood.
  • The Ministry has been taking up several activities for the protection and conservation of Dolphins and its habitats.
  • Considering that generating awareness amongst the people on the benefits of conservation of Dolphins and participation of people in conservation efforts is imperative, the Standing Committee recommended that every year 5th of October shall be celebrated as National Dolphin Day.

Earth Hour 2022 Observed From 8.30 To 9.30 PM

  • Earth Hour is a worldwide movement organized by the Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF).
  • The event is held annually, encouraging individuals, communities, and businesses to turn off non-essential electric lights, for one hour, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. on a specific day towards the end of March, as a symbol of commitment to the planet.
  • It was started as a lights-off event in Sydney, Australia, in 2007.
  • Earth Hour 2022 Was Observed With the theme “Shape our Future”, highlighting our collective responsibility towards the environment. Earth Hour Official in a tweet said, Humans are the cause of climate change, but they are also the solution. Together, we can act to #ShapeOurFuture.

WHO Global Centre For Traditional Medicine

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said, the country is honoured to be home to a state-of-the-art WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine. this WHO Centre will go a long way in enhancing wellness in our society & contribute towards making a healthier planet and leveraging our rich traditional practices for global good.
  • WHO and the Government has agreed to establish the WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine, to maximize the potential of traditional medicines through modern science and technology.
  • The Ministry of Ayush has signed the Host Country Agreement with World Health Organization for establishing WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine at Jamnagar in Gujarat.
  • WHO in a statement said, the global knowledge centre for traditional medicine, supported by an investment of 250 million dollars from the Government of India, aims to harness the potential of traditional medicine from across the world through modern science and technology to improve the health of people and the planet.
  • The Agreement was signed yesterday in Geneva by Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, and Director General, WHO Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. Last month, the Union Cabinet had approved the establishment of the Centre.
  • GCTM will be the first and only Global Centre (office) for traditional medicine across the globe. It will focus on building a solid evidence base for policies and standards on traditional medicine practices and products and help countries integrate it as appropriate into their health systems and regulate its quality and safety for optimal and sustainable impact.
  • The GCTM will be established at Jamnagar, Gujarat, with its interim office at the Institute of Training and Research in Ayurveda (ITRA) in Gujarat.
