Swachh Sarvekshan 2022 Launched

  • Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) launched the seventh consecutive edition of Swachh Sarvekshan (SS), the world’s largest urban cleanliness survey conducted by Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban (SBM-U) at New Delhi today.
  • Designed with ‘People First’ as its driving philosophy, Swachh Sarvekshan 2022 is curated towards capturing the initiatives of cities for the overall welfare and well-being of frontline sanitation workers.
  • The survey, flavored with the Azaadi@75 spirit, will also give priority to the voices of senior citizens and young adults alike and reinforce their participation towards upholding the cleanliness of urban India.

Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh takes over as DG NCC

  • Lieutenant General Gurbirpal Singh took over as the 34th Director General of National Cadet Corps (NCC) on September 27, 2021. Lt Gen Singh was commissioned into The PARACHUTE REGIMENT in 1987. An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, Indian Military Academy, Dehradun as well as NCC, he attended the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington, the Higher Command Course in Mhow and the National Defence College Course in New Delhi.
  • Lt Gen Singh has been a Company Commander in counter-insurgency environment in Nagaland and the Siachen Glacier. He has commanded a Special Forces Battalion in the intense counter-terrorism environment of the Valley Sector in Kashmir and also in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon. He has commanded a Mountain Brigade & an Infantry Division on the Line of Control.
  • The General Officer has tenanted the appointments of General Staff Officer (Operations) in Sector Headquarters Rashtriya Rifles.

PM launches Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission

  • The Prime Minister in his Speech Highlighted:
  • Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission will now help connect digital health solutions across the country.  All Indians will now get a digital health ID under this scheme.
  • Every citizen’s health record will now be digitally secure.
  • The Health ID of every citizen will also work as their health account, to which personal health records can be linked and viewed with the help of a mobile application.
  • It Will play a big role in eliminating problems in medical treatment of poor and middle class.
  • 130 crore Aadhar IDs, 118 crore mobile subscribers, about 80 crore internet users and 43 crore Jan Dhan Bank accounts – such a huge, connected infrastructure can’t be found anywhere else in the world.
  • This digital infrastructure – from ration to governance – is reaching every Indian in a transparent manner
  • Three years ago, on Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya’s birth anniversary, Ayushman Bharat Yojana was implemented. I am happy that Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission is being started nationwide from today on its third anniversary.

GI Tag to Assam’s Judima Rice Wine

  • A home-made rice wine of Assam’s Dimasa tribe has become the first traditional brew in all of northeast to bag a Geographical Indication (GI) tag.
  • Judima is a rice wine made from sticky rice (glutinous rice called Bora), which is steamed and mixed with traditional herbs called Thembra (Acacia pennata).
  • The wine is a specialty of the Dimasa tribe of the state (Assam) and has a distinct sweet taste and takes around one week to prepare and it can be stored for years.

India beats Germany, UK, Russia to bag prestigious IAEA Auditor

  • Adding another feather in its cap, India has been elected as the ‘External Auditor to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)’ for a period of six years from 2022 to 2027 after beating countries like Germany, the United Kingdom, Russia, Turkey among other nations.
  • India’s Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) GC Murmu has been selected as the external auditor of IAEA – a prestigious institution that promotes peaceful use of nuclear energy. GC Murmu’s candidature received majority support of the IAEA general conference.
  • In an official communique, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that the election is a “recognition” of India’s standing in the international community and global acknowledgment of the CAG’s credentials, professionalism, and experience. “The CAG’s bid received majority support of the IAEA General Conference for the position for which several competing bids were submitted from different countries,” MEA mentioned in the statement.
  • G C Murmu, who took over the charge of the external auditor of IAEA, is the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India from August 8, 2020. Before that, he served as the first Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir.
  • Created in 1957, IAEA was established in response to the fears and expectations generated by the discoveries and diverse uses of nuclear technology. The Agency’s genesis was U.S. President Eisenhower’s “Atoms for Peace” address to the General Assembly of the United Nations on 8 December 1953.
