B S Bommai Takes Oath as CM of Karnataka
- The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has congratulated Shri B S Bommai ji on taking oath as 23rd Chief Minister of Karnataka.
- The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has congratulated Shri B S Bommai ji on taking oath as 23rd Chief Minister of Karnataka.
- He is son of the former Chief Minister of Karnataka, S. R. Bommai.
- The Bommai verdict (1994) spelt out clearly that the imposition of Article 356 by the President on a state government should not be arbitrary and there should be a solid ground for it. This judgement largely helped put an end to the arbitrary impositions seen until then.
Chandrayaan-3 to be Launched by End of 2022
- In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, Dr. Jitendra Singh said that Chandrayaan-3 is likely to be launched during third quarter of 2022 assuming normal workflow henceforth.
- Chandrayaan-1 (2008-09), Chandrayaan- (2019), Chandrayaan-3 (2022) are Indian lunar probe missions under the Chandrayaan program by ISRO.
- Chandrayaan-3 would be sent through GSLV Mark III, which would land on ‘Lunar south pole’, the estimated cost is approx. ₹ 615 Crores.
Making Water Sensitive Cities in Ganga Basin
- Recently, a new capacity building initiative on ‘Making water sensitive cities in Ganga basin’ was launched by the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) in association with Centre for Science and Environment (CSE).
- Aim: Capacity building and action research for promoting sustainable urban water management for improved river health in Ganga basin cities.
- Key Focus Areas: Water Sensitive Urban Design and Planning, Urban Water Efficiency and Conservation, Decentralized Wastewater Treatment and Local Reuse, Urban Groundwater Management, Urban Water Bodies/Lake Management.
World Economic Outlook: IMF
- The latest edition of the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) World Economic Outlook (published twice a year in the months of April and October) has cut its 2021 growth forecast for India to 9.5% from 12.5% estimated earlier in April 2021.
- Indian economy is expected to grow by 9.5% in 2021 and 8.5% in 2022, which has witnessed an estimated contraction of 8% in 2020.
- Global growth forecast at 6% for the year 2021, and it is expected to grow at 4.9% for the year 2022. In 2020, the global economy contracted by 3.3%
52,391 Entities Recognized as Startups
- Indian startup ecosystem is widely recognized as the 3rd largest startup ecosystem.
- As of 14th, July 2021 total 52,391 entities are recognized as startups by Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and as of 14th July 2021, more than 5.7 lakh jobs have been reported by more than 50,000 startups.
- As per Industry estimates, there are 53 unicorns currently in India, with a tentative valuation of Rs. 1.4 lakh crore.
- In business, a unicorn is a privately held startup company valued at over $1 billion.
- The Startup India initiative on 15th August 2015. The flagship initiative aims to build a strong eco-system for nurturing innovation and Startups in the country that will drive sustainable economic growth and generate large scale employment opportunities.
‘Raja Mircha’ from Nagaland exported to London
- In a major boost to exports of GI products from the N-E region, a consignment of ‘Raja Mircha’ also referred as king chilli from Nagaland was today exported to London via Guwahati by air for the first time.
- The consignment of King Chilli also considered as world’s hottest based on the Scoville Heat Units (SHUs).
- The chilli from Nagaland is also referred as Bhoot Jolokia and Ghost pepper. It got GI certification in 2008.
PM Modi meets US Secretary of State Antony Blinken
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday met US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and welcomed President Joe Biden’s strong commitment to strengthening the India-US Strategic Partnership.
- Mr. Blinken said India and US partnership will be critical for delivering stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region and to show the world how democracy can deliver for its people.
- Earlier addressing the joint conference with his Indian counterpart S Jaishankar, the US top diplomat said that there are very few relationships in the world that are more vital than the one between India and the US.
