Brave Heart Kapil won Gold In the 50m Backstroke Event
- Sep Kapil, a brave heart of the Indian Army RAJPUT Regiment who lost his foot on 21 Dec 2020 in Mine blast while guarding our frontiers in Poonch along the LC won Gold in 50m backstroke Event at 21st National Para-Swimming Championship on 26 March 2022.
- Under the joint aegis of Paralympic Committee of India and Narayan Seva Sansthan, the ’21st National Para-Swimming Championship’ has been organized from March 25 to 27 at the Swimming Pool Complex, Maharana Pratap Khelgaon, Udaipur. Para Olympian Padma Bhushan -Devendra Jhajharia and Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Awardee – Krishna Nagar inaugurated the event. The event witnessed participation from more than 400 male and female paralympic swimming personalities of the country.
Major Surender Participated In The Iron Man Competition
- Major Surender Malik of the Indian Army successfully participated in the Iron Man Competition, considered the toughest single-day event on the planet, in Dubai. The grueling Triathlon comprises swimming followed by cycling and a half marathon.
- Naib Subedar RS Rao of Indian Army won Gold Medal in Long Jump T-64 event with a jump of 6.42 meter at World Para Athletics Grand Prix held in Dubai & brought laurels to the Nation & the Indian Army.
Military Court Tells IAF To Allow Jawan Who Cleared UPSC Exam, To Quit And Join As Civil Services Officer
- In a case where the Indian Air Force officials were not allowing jawans who had cleared the UPSC civil services examinations and state level civil services exams, to quit service and join as a class I officer, the Armed Forces Tribunal has asked the IAF to let them leave and join the civil service within two weeks.
- The Principal Bench of the Armed Forces Tribunal headed by Justice Rajendra Menon also asked the Indian Air Force to change their rules and conditions for granting permission to air warriors for applying for grade A services exams outside the force.
- The military court said, “in view of the arguments, we find adequate merit in both pleas and the same is therefore allowed and we, therefore, allow the respondents to issue necessary NOC to both applicants within two weeks of this order. (B) Respondents to also issue necessary discharge order to both applicants to facilitate the applicants join the civil job.

MoD Signs Rs 473 Crore Contract With GSL
- MOD has signed a contract with Goa Shipyard Limited for construction of eight Fast Patrol Vessels for the Indian Coast Guard at a total project cost of Rs 473 crore. The contract was signed by Joint Secretary (Maritime & Systems) Shri Dinesh Kumar and Chairman & Managing Director, GSL Cmde BB Nagpal (Retd) in New Delhi on March 28, 2022.
- These surface platforms will be indigenously designed, developed, and manufactured by GSL under Buy (Indian-IDDM) Category. These eight high speed vessels will be based along the coast of India with capability to operate in shallow waters and enhance the security apparatus along the vast coastline.
FLEET CARD-FUEL ON MOVE AN INITIATIVE TO SPEED UP IAF CONVOY MOVEMENTS
- IAF in collaboration with Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) has taken a leap forward in fuel supply chain management by introducing a ‘Fleet Card – Fuel on Move’ for its varied fleet of vehicles. This innovative initiative taken by the Indian Air Force provides a paradigm shift to the logistics management of fuel.
- ‘Fleet Card’, the energy security for IAF vehicles on move, was launched by Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari, Chief of Air Staff at Headquarters Western Air Command, Subroto Park on 28 Mar 22 in the presence of Air Marshal S Prabhakaran, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief WAC & Mr. SM Vaidya Chairman IOCL.
NAVY OPEN LASER AND BAHIA SAILING CHAMPIONSHIP – 2022
- Indian Navy Watermanship Training Centre (INWTC), Karwar conducted the Navy Open Laser and Bahia Sailing Championship – 2022 from 22 to 26 March 2022 under the aegis of Indian Naval Sailing Association (INSA).
- Yachtsmen and women from all three Commands of the Indian Navy viz., Western Naval Command, Eastern Naval Command and Southern Naval Command, seven INWTCs, Army Yachting Node (Mumbai) and Cadets from National Defence Academy honed and demonstrated sailing and watermanship skills in Karwar harbour.
- The championship was conducted in three different classes of boats namely Laser (Standard), Laser (Radial) and Laser Bahia and 36 races were conducted in a span of four days with 12 races for each of the three categories.
Govt Plans to Procure Military Equipment Worth Rs 5 Lakh Cr from Domestic Source
- The defence ministry said it plans to procure military equipment worth Rs 5 lakh crore from the domestic industries in the next five to seven years in line with its policy of promoting indigenous defence manufacturing.
- In August 2020, the ministry announced that India will stop the import of 101 weapons and military platforms like transport aircraft, light combat helicopters, conventional submarines, cruise missiles and sonar systems by 2024.
- A second list, putting import restrictions on 108 military weapons and systems such as next-generation corvettes, airborne early warning systems, tank engines, and radars, under a staggered timeline was issued in May last year.
Rs 3,343 Crore Received as FDI In Defence Since 2014
- The government said that a total of Rs 3,343 crore has been received as foreign direct investment (FDI) in the defence sector since 2014. In response to a question in Rajya Sabha, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said the defence sector needs continuous investment for capacity enhancements and the creation of state-of-the-art technologies.
- “During the period from 2001-2014, a total FDI inflow of about Rs 1,382 crore was reported and from 2014 till date, a total FDI of about Rs 3,343 crore has been reported“.
US Military Held Over 100 Drills Near China
- The US held more than 100 large-scale military exercises near China last year, practicing and validating several new war concepts as the Pentagon ramped up military deployment in the region to contain Beijing, an official think-tank here said.
- the US military conducted 95 exercises in and near the disputed South China Sea in 2021, with the actual number exceeding 100, the South China Sea Strategic Situation Probing Initiative (SCSPI).
- Among the 95 drills, 14 consisted solely of arms of the US military, including the Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Army and Coast Guard. China’s claims over the South China Sea were disputed by the Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, Brunei and Taiwan.
Neeraj Chopra, Pramod Bhagat receive Padma Shri
- Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra on Monday received the Padma Shri, the country’s fourth highest civilian award. The 24-year-old javelin thrower received the prestigious award from President Ram Nath Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhavan during a ceremony.
- Chopra made history at the Tokyo Olympics by becoming the first Indian to win a gold medal in a track and field event in the Games’ history.
- He also became only the second Indian to win an individual Olympic gold after shooter Abhinav Bindra.
Petascale Supercomputer “PARAM Shakti” Established at IIT Kharagpur
- PARAM Shakti”, a Petascale Supercomputer “at IIT Kharagpur, has been dedicated to the nation under the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM) – a joint initiative of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and Department of Science and Technology (DST).
- PARAM Shakti supercomputing facility is accelerating the research and development activities in multidisciplinary domains of computational and data sciences as it provides large-scale computing power to the user community of IIT Kharagpur and neighbouring academic and R&D institutes.
- Some of the identified focus areas in which this supercomputing-based research will be of great value addition are Computational Fluid Dynamics, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data Analytics, Climate Change & Digital Earth, Computational Biology, Cryptography & Security, Smart Infrastructure & Sustainable Cities, Smart Materials, etc.
Indian Navy’s ALH arrived at Sri Lankan AF base
- Indian Navy’s ALH arrived at Sri Lankan AF base Katunayake for training Sri Lankan Air Force aviators & Sri Lankan Navy ships for shipborne helicopter operations. The training is planned for over a week to familiarise the SLAF Pilots with the ALH & provide a co-pilot experience.
