Indian Army Inducts 12 Indigenously Developed Short Span Bridging Systems (SSBS)-10 M

  • The SSBS-10 m plays a crucial role of bridging the gaps up to 9.5 m as a single span providing a 4 m wide, fully decked roadway, ensuring faster movement of the troops.
  • R&D Establishment (Engineers) Pune, a premier laboratory of DRDO, has designed and developed the system in association with M/s L&T Ltd.
  • The DRDO has vast experience in developing critical Combat Engineering Systems like Military Bridging Systems. Number of mechanized mobility solutions for the Indian Army like Single Span 5 m and 10 m, Short Span Bridging System, 46 m Modular Bridge, 20 m BLT-T72 and multi span 75 m Sarvatra Bridging System etc. have been developed. Manually launched 34.5 m Mountain Foot Bridge was also developed by DRDO earlier.

Indian Navy’s MH-60R Helicopter Induction Crew Undergoing Training at US Naval Base Coronado

  • A team of 18 Navy personnel reached US for training on the MH-60R multi-role helicopters, 24 of which were contracted in a $2.2-billion deal signed during the visit of then President Donald Trump in February 2020.
  • 3 helicopters are scheduled to be delivered next month which will be used for training in the U.S. The first batch is likely to arrive in India by June 2022.
  • Training of the first batch of aircrew and technical crew, will commence at Pensacola, Florida and San Diego.
  • These helicopters, built by Lockheed Martin, are being procured under the ‘Buy (Global)’ category of the procurement procedure through the Foreign Military Sales route of the U.S. The deliveries are expected to be completed by 2025.

ABOUT MH-60R HELICOPTER:

Cockpit Dimensions:

  • Fully integrated glass cockpit equipped with four 8in × 10in (20.3cm × 25.4cm) full-colour multi-function mission and flight displays that are night-vision goggle-compatible and sunlight-readable.
  • The length of the cabin is 3.2m, while the height and width are 1.3m and 1.8m respectively. The cabin area and volume of the helicopter are 6m² and 8.5m³, respectively.

  • ATK mk50 or mk46 active / passive lightweight torpedoes.

  • Engines: 2 General Electric T700-GE-401C turboshaft engines rated at 1,425kW.
  • The internal self-sealing fuel tanks have a capacity of 2,230l.
  • Climb rate = 8.38 m/s.
  • Max. Speed = 267 km/h
  • Cruise Speed = 168 km/h
  • Range = 834 km.
  • Service ceiling = 3,438m.
  • Weight = 6,895 kg.
  • MTOW = 10,659kg.

Youth from 25 countries to participate in Republic Day 2022 celebrations as part of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’

  • The National Cadets Corps (NCC) will be inviting youth delegations of 25 countries from across all six inhabited continents to participate in the Republic Day 2022 celebrations.
  • Of these 25, 15 countries are going to represent their youth delegations for the first time and the rest 10 nations are those with NCC already conducts Youth Exchange Programme (YEP).
  • 15 countries representing for first time: USA, Canada, UK, France, Japan, Oman, UAE, Brazil, Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, Mauritius, Mozambique, Nigeria and Seychelles.
  • 10 other participating countries with whom India already undertakes YEP: Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Singapore, Kyrgyz Republic, Sri Lanka, Maldives and Vietnam.
  • For the first time, the cadets/youth participating in the NCC Republic Day camp from foreign countries will compete to get selected based on a selection process to be organised by NCC in those countries. The selection competition will adjudge candidates on their knowledge about India, its achievements in last 75 years, culture and people.
