Economic Relief Package Announced

  • Ministry of Finance announced a slew of measures to provide relief to diverse sectors affected by the second wave of Covid-19.
  • The Package is expected to usher in much-needed liquidity and help revive the economy and Sectors hard hit due to COVID-19.

The Term of Attorney General of India Extended

  • The central government has extended the term of K.K. Venugopal as Attorney General (AG) for one more year.
  • He holds several sensitive cases pending in SC regarding abrogation of Article 370 and Citizenship Amendment Act.
  • The Attorney General (AG) of India is a part of the Union Executive. AG is the highest law officer in the country.
  • Article 76 of the Constitution provides for the office of AG of India.

World’s Second Biggest Hydropower Dam in China

  • The Three Gorges Dam is the largest hydropower dam in the world which is along China’s Yangtze River. It began operations in 2003.
  • Now China has put into operation the Baihetan Dam, world’s Second Biggest Hydropower Dam.
  • It has been built with a total installed capacity of 16,000 megawatts.

Few Tigers Found Inhabiting Barnadi Wildlife Sanctuary

  • Worldwide Fund for Nature-India (WWF) found a few tigers inhabiting the Barnadi Wildlife Sanctuary in Assam.
  • It is one of the smallest WS (Wildlife Sanctuary) of Assam and covers an area of 26.22 sq. km.
  • This siting is important for threatened species such as the Asian Elephant , Tiger and to know much about their breeding and evolving Habits.
  • World Wildlife Fund for Nature is the world’s leading conservation organization and works in more than 100 countries. It was established in 1961 and is headquartered at Gland, Switzerland.

Atmanirbhar Krishi APP Launched

  • Launched by the Office of Principal Scientific Adviser, the app was created to equip farmers with actionable agricultural insights and early weather alerts.
  • Data related to soil type, soil health, moisture, weather, and water table were aggregated and analyzed to generate personalized insights related to crop selection, fertilizers requirements, and water needs for each farmer at the farm-holding level.

CIL forges ahead towards Energy Efficiency

  • In a bid to reduce carbon footprint in its operational area, Coal India Ltd. (CIL) has put special thrust on energy efficiency measures and is forging ahead with a series of measures to offset carbon emission in mining operation in all its coal producing companies.
  • Apart from taking immediate action for efficient use of energy, CIL has also drawn an ambitious 5-year plan of carbon offset in different fields of its operation.
  • A carbon footprint is the total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions caused by an individual, event, organization, service, place, or product, expressed as carbon dioxide equivalent.
