Indian Army for Konkurs Anti-tank Missiles

  • Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) and the Indian Army have signed a contract worth Rs 3,131.82 crore for the manufacture and supply of Konkurs-M anti-tank guided missiles.
  • As a part of its global outreach, BDL is also offering Man-Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missiles, Nag, Milan-2T, and Amogha, in addition to Konkurs M, for export.
  • About Konkurs ATM: Konkurs-M is a 2nd generation, mechanised infantry anti-tank guided missile, to destroy armoured vehicles equipped with explosive reactive armour.The missile can be launched either from the BMP-II tank or from a ground launcher. It has a range between 75 to 4000 metres.

Army Chief Presents Army Day 2022 Parade Trophies

  • General MM Naravane COAS presented the Army Day 2022 Parade trophies for Best Marching Contingents to ASSAM Regiment for standing 1st & RAJPUT Regiment for standing 2nd.
  • Best Military Bands for the Army Day 2022 Parade to MADRAS Regimental Centre for standing 1st and ASC Centre (South) for standing 2nd.
  • The trophies for Best Pipes and Drums Bands for the Army Day 2022 Parade was awarded to SIKH Regimental Centre for standing 1st and LADAKH Scouts Regimental Centre for standing 2nd.

PLA’S Regional Commander In Galwan Clash Is Torchbearer At Beijing Winter Olympics

  • China’s PLA’S regimental commander Qi Fabao, who had suffered severe injuries during the Galwan clash, became the torchbearer at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics Torch Relay.
  • Galwan Clash:
  • 20 Indian Army personnel, including the C.O of the 16th Bihar Regiment, lost their lives with full bravery in the Galwan Valley of Ladakh.
  • The Indian and Chinese armies are engaged in the standoff in Pangong Tso, Galwan Valley, Demchok & Daulat Beg Oldie in eastern Ladakh.
  • Line of Actual Control (LAC):
  • The LAC is the demarcation that separates Indian-controlled territory from Chinese-controlled territory. India considers the LAC to be 3,488 km long, while the Chinese consider it to be only around 2,000 km.
  • The India-China LAC in Ladakh is an outcome of the territory illegally retained by China after the 1962 conflict.

POTUS Sending More Troops to Europe Amid Ukraine Tension

  • US President Joe Biden is sending about 2,000 troops from Fort Bragg, North Carolina, to Poland and Germany this week and sending part of an infantry Stryker squadron of roughly 1,000 troops based in Germany to Romania.
  • Reason of Conflict b/w Ukraine & Russia:
  • Russians and Ukrainians parted ways linguistically, historically &, most importantly, politically.
  • Russia claimed that Russians and Ukrainians are “one people”, part of the “Russian civilisation” that also includes neighbouring Belarus. Ukrainians reject his claims.
  • Ukraine went through two revolutions in 2005 and 2014, both times rejecting Russia’s supremacy and seeking a path to join the EU& NATO.
  • About NATO:
  • It is a military alliance established by the North Atlantic Treaty (also called the Washington Treaty) of April 1949, by the United States, Canada, and several Western European nations to provide collective security against the Soviet Union.

US Navy Kicks Off 60-nation Maritime Exercise

  • The U.S. Navy has begun a major exercise in the Middle East that both brings in 60 regional navies to rehearse operating together.
  • The combined International Maritime Exercise 2022 and Cutlass Express 2022, which runs from Jan. 31 through Feb. 17, is the biggest opportunity.
  • The exercise covers a vast regional area: the Persian Gulf, Arabian Sea, Gulf of Oman, Red Sea & North Indian Ocean.
  • The event will combine 9,000 personnel, 50 ships & about 80 unmanned systems to conduct maritime domain awareness, sea control, maritime security, mine countermeasures & other related missions.
