The event occurred on Thursday at about 3 p.m. at Bhata Dhurian Falls in the Mendhar sub-division, as the car was traveling from Bhimber Gali to Sangiot.

“Today, around 1500 hours, an Army vehicle traveling between Bhimber Gali and Poonch in the Rajouri sector was fired on by unidentified terrorists who took advantage of the heavy rains and low visibility in the area.” The car caught fire as a result of terrorists’ use of grenades, according to Defence spokesperson Lt Col Devender Anand.

The Army has initiated a manhunt to find the offenders. The soldiers were members of the Rashtriya Rifles Unit and were stationed in the region to perform counter-terrorism operations. The Commander of the 13 Sector Rashtriya Rifles has also been dispatched to the scene to conduct an additional investigation. Some sources stated that the fire was started by a lightning strike that may have struck the truck. However, it was quickly determined that the terrorist had orchestrated the ambush attack. Images and videos from the incident have gone viral on social media platforms, showing the Army vehicle engulfed in flames.

Notably, the terrorist attack came on the same day that Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari confirmed his visit to India for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting next month.

Pakistan: Epicentre of Terrorism

For years, Pakistan has served as a staging ground for terrorists invading India and carrying out similar activities. Furthermore, the tragedy occurs just a week after Union Home Minister Amit Shah and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval convened a high-level meeting in the capital city to discuss the UT’s security situation. The conference was also attended by R&AW chief Samant Kumar Goel, National Investigation Agency Director General Dinkar Gupta, Director Intelligence Bureau Tapan Deka, and Central Reserve Police Force Director General SL Thaosen.
