Sagar Parikrama
- The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying will inaugurate the ‘Sagar Parikrama’ to know the problems of Coastal Fisher folk.
- It is a navigation journey to be conducted in all coastal states/UTs through a pre-decided sea route to demonstrate solidarity with all fisherfolk, fish farmers and concerned stakeholders.
- It is envisioned as a part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsava’ saluting our great freedom fighters, sailors and fishers.
- The Parikrama will start from Mandvi, Gujarat in Ist phase and will be organised in other districts of Gujarat and other State/UTs in subsequent phases.
- The first leg of ‘Sagar Parikrama’ shall start on 5th March 2022 from Mandvi and end at Porbandar on 6th March 2022.
Swacchagraha: Celebrating Swachhta And Swadhinta
- Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs in collaboration with Sulabh International is organizing an event “Swacchagraha” under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to encourage the mass awareness with the core thought of “Swachhta, Swadhinta and Sulabh” tomorrow in New Delhi.
- The event will be conducted in two sessions and in the first session Dr. Bindeshwar Pathak, founder of Sulabh Sanitation, Social Reform & Human Rights Movement will address the audience. On the occasion, Baba Ramdev, Yoga Guru from the Patanjali Yogpeeth center situated at Haridwar will also address the audience virtually. The event will also be graced by many eminent personalities and guests who have contributed to this field including Dr. Richard Pais, Prof. Kameshwar Nath Singh, Smt. Usha Chaumar.
Anti-collision System ‘Kavach’
- Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced that ‘Kavach’ System, the anti-collision test conducted by the Indian Railways to check the indigenous developed system to avoid rail accidents is successful. He held an on-site inspection today near Secunderabad.
- The indigenously developed Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system, Kavach, was designed to help the Railways achieve – zero accidents.
- ‘Kavach’ automatically stopped the train before 380 metres of other Locomotive at the front. He tweeted about the successful test of Kavach.
- The test involved two trains – one with the railway minister on board and the other with the Chairman of the Railway Board – hurtle towards each other at full speed. Both the trains stopped 380 metres apart. The Kavach will be the world’s cheapest automatic train collision protection system.
- The railway authorities informed that once implemented, it will cost 50 lakh rupees per kilometre to operate compared to about 2 crore rupees worldwide.
UN Human Rights Body Sets Up Panel On Ukraine
- The UN’s top human rights body has voted overwhelmingly to appoint a three-person panel of experts to monitor human rights in Ukraine, where Russia launched military operations. The Human Rights Council voted 32-2, with 13 abstentions, to pass a resolution that was presented by many Western countries and others who have spoken out against Moscow’s attack on its neighbor.
- Only Russia and Eritrea opposed the resolution, with China abstaining. The vote today was the culmination of an urgent debate called by Ukraine, during which most council members lambasted Russia. Many Western envoys sported blue or yellow ties, scarves, jackets or ribbons on their lapels, in a reference to the colors of the Ukrainian flag. Far-flung countries such as Gambia and Malaysia spoke out against the invasion.
UN Fund For Humanitarian Operations In Ukraine
- Russia has taken control of a nuclear power station in Ukraine after it was hit by shelling. A fire broke out at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant – the largest in Europe – and Ukraine said it was shelled by Russian troops. Authorities say the facility is now safe and radiation levels are normal.
- World leaders have accused Russia of endangering the safety of an entire continent and Ukraine’s President accused Russia of nuclear terror.
- US President Joe Biden urged Moscow to stop its military activities around the site, while Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said the horrific attacks from Russia must cease immediately.
- UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the reckless attack could directly threaten the safety of all of Europe. He said, he would seek an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council today over the attack. All three leaders spoke to Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky by phone.
- Mr Zelensky, meanwhile, said Russia wanted a repeat of Chernobyl, the site of the world’s worst nuclear disaster in 1986.
- Russia’s Defence Ministry blamed the attack on Ukrainian saboteurs, calling it a monstrous provocation without providing evidence.
- A video feed from the nuclear plant showed blasts lighting up the night sky and sending up plumes of smoke. According to Ukraine’s nuclear inspectorate, buildings around one of the plant’s six power units have been damaged without affecting its safety.
Peshawar Mosque Blast
- In Pakistan, a powerful bomb exploded inside a Shiite Muslim mosque in its northern city of Peshawar. At least 30 worshippers were killed and more than dozens injured following the massive blast.
- Peshawar police Chief Muhammed Ejaz Khan said the violence started when two armed attackers opened fire on police outside the mosque. One attacker and one policeman were killed in the gunfight, and another police official was wounded. The second attacker then ran inside the mosque and detonated a bomb.
- At least 150 worshippers were inside the mosque at the time of the explosion, said witnesses. No one immediately claimed responsibility for the blast Prime Minister Imran Khan condemned the bombing.
Australian Spinner Shane Warne Is No More
- Australia cricket legend and one of the greatest leg-spinners of all-time, Shane Warne, has died, aged 52 on Friday after a suspected heart attack in Thailand. He is survived by two daughters and a son.
- Warne, one of the finest leg-spin bowlers of all time, took 708 Test wickets in a career which spanned from 1992 to 2007. In the all-time highest Test wicket-takers list, Warne is just behind Sri Lankan legend Muttiah Muralitharan’s record 800 wickets. In 2007, Cricket Australia and Sri Lanka Cricket named the Test series between the two sides the Warne–Muralitharan Trophy in the duo’s honour.
