DRDO Developed MMICs Onboard EOS 04

  • DRDO developed Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits have been used in radar imaging satellite modules of EOS 04, which was launched by ISRO on 14th Feb 2022.
    • Many of the Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits were designed/ developed and produced at Solid State Physics Laboratory DRDO and Gallium Arsenide Enabling Technology Centre foundry of DRDO.
    • The TR-Modules used in the payload for Radar imaging have been developed using these MMICs. More than 30,000 modules have been produced at GAETEC foundry for various space missions.
    • This is an example of collaborative achievement between two advanced technology departments of the Government of India along with the support of industry partners. The use of indigenously designed and developed MMICs is an important step towards Atmanibhar Bharat.

Postponement of DefExpo 2022

  • Due to logistics problems being experienced by participants, the DefExpo 2022 proposed to be held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat from March 10th till March 14th is postponed.
  • The new dates will be communicated in due course.

  • DefExpo is a flagship biennial event of the MoD, showcasing the land, naval, air as well as homeland security systems.
  • The aim of the DefExpo 2022 is to build upon the vision to achieve Atmanirbharta’ in defence and reach the $5bn defence exports target by 2024.
  • The 11th edition of DefExpo was held at Lucknow (U.P) in 2020.

General S F Rodrigues Passes Away

  • The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has expressed deep grief over the passing away of former Indian Army Chief General S F Rodrigues.
  • General Sunith Francis Rodrigues (retd) was the 15th Chief of Army Staff from 01 July 1990 to 30 June 1993.” He was also the 26th Governor of Punjab and the 13th Administrator of Chandigarh.
  • The General Officer had participated in the Sino-Indian War of 1962, Indo-Pakistan War 1965, and Indo-Pak War 1971. General Rodrigues was awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal and Vishisht Seva Medal in recognition of his dedication and service.

Modernisation Plan-IV for CAPF

  • The Government has approved the scheme – Modernisation Plan-IV for CAPFs in continuation of the scheme “Modernisation Plan-III for CAPFs. The Modernisation Plan-IV will run from 01.02.2022 to 31.03.2026.
  • Modernisation Plan-IV for CAPFs with a total financial outlay of Rs.1,523 crore is to be implemented by the MHA.
  • Implementation of the scheme will equip CAPFs to improve the overall operational efficiency/preparedness which will positively impact the internal security scenario in the country.  This would bolster the Government’s ability to address the challenges being faced on the International Border/LoC/LAC as well as in the different theatres, such as areas affected by Left Wing Extremism, Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and insurgency affected Northeastern States.

Hybrid Seminars Organised During DefExpo 2022  

  • Ministry of Defence is hosting the 12th edition of the prestigious biennial defence exhibition, DefExpo 2022, at Gandhinagar, Gujarat from March 10-14, 2022.
  • This mega defence international exhibition is focussing on land, air, naval, internal homeland security and electronic systems.
  • The DefExpo seminars will be held in a hybrid format, enabling the speakers as well as the audience to participate in various seminars virtually.
  • The seminars are themed on exports, future of Civil Aviation in India, R&D, Future of Conflicts, Aero Engines and MRO, Outreach programs by the State Governments on investment opportunities etc.
  • The NCC falls under the purview of the Ministry of Defence and is headed by a Director-General of three-star military rank.

National Safety Day 2022

  • National Safety Day is celebrated every year on 4 March. The day aims to highlight the importance of following safety regulations and measures in order to avoid workplace mishaps.
  • The motive behind celebrations of this day is to create awareness and commitment to working safely.

BDL Pays Interim Dividend of Over Rs 100 crore to Gov

  • Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) has paid an interim dividend of Rs 7.30 per equity share of Rs 10 each for the financial year 2021-22 amounting to Rs 133.7953 crore.
  • The interim dividend declared by the company works out to 73 per cent of the paid-up share capital of Rs 183.28 crore.
  • Commodore Siddharth Mishra (Retd), Chairman and Managing Director, BDL, presented the cheque for Rs 100.24 crore, being the interim dividend pertaining to the Government of India shareholding in BDL, to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
  • BDL, a Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Defence, holds an impressive order book position of Rs 11,400 crore net as of today, according to a Ministry of Defence release.
  • To ensure timely delivery of work orders, the Company has augmented its production capabilities. Modernization of existing facilities is being taken up aggressively to supply futuristic weapons to the Indian Armed Forces.
