I&B Blocks 22 YouTube Channels Related to National Security

  • The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, utilizing the emergency powers under the IT Rules, 2021, has issued orders on 04.04.2022 for blocking 22YouTube-based news channels, 3 Twitter Accounts, 1 Facebook account, and 1 news website.

Action on Indian YouTube-based news channels

  • This is the first-time action has been taken against the Indian YouTube-based news publishers since the notification of the IT Rules, 2021 in February last year. Through the recent blocking order, 18 Indian and 4 Pakistan based YouTube news channels have been blocked.

Analysis of Content

  • Multiple YouTube channels were used to post fake news on various subjects such as the Indian Armed Forces, Jammu and Kashmir, etc. The content ordered to be blocked also included certain anti-India content posted from multiple social media accounts operated in a coordinated manner from Pakistan.
  • It was observed that a significant amount of false content published by these Indian YouTube-based channels related to the ongoing situation in Ukraine and aimed at jeopardizing India’s foreign relations with other countries.

Indian Air Force UAV crashes in Jaisalmer

  • In an unpleasant development, an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) belonging to the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed near a residential area in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district. According to initial reports, the UAV fell near Amar Shaheed Sagarmala Gopa Colony in Jaisalmer city.
  • “An Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) of the Indian Air Force crashed today during a sortie in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. The cause of the crash to be ascertained through an inquiry,”.
  • UAVs- Advanced countries use unmanned aerial vehicles for military surveillance, law enforcement and even rescue efforts. These are remote-controlled planes with scanners and camera equipment.
  • The Defence Research and Development Organisation is currently designing two UAVs based on Nishant. One is a low-cost aerial target and reconnaissance system. Kapothaka, a smaller version of Nishant, will have a flight endurance of 90 minutes and be able to carry a payload of 20kg.
  • Ulka, the second project, will be able to simulate the speed and altitude of a variety of enemy aircraft using false radar signatures. It is being designed to be launched from subsonic or supersonic aircraft and perform missions between 50 feet and 13,000 feet at 1.4 times the speed of sound.
  • India already has in its possession 16 Israeli-made UAVs of the ‘Searcher’ family. Searcher provides day-and-night real-time imagery data.

Discusses Defence Ties with Singapore Defence Minister

  • Naravane called on Singaporean Defence Minister Dr Ng Eng Hen on Tuesday and discussed regional geopolitical developments between the two countries.
    • The strong and long-standing bilateral defence relationship between both nations was re-affirmed during the meeting.
    • COAS also reviewed the Guard of Honour at the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF), Singapore. The COAS complimented the Guard for an impeccable Turnout and Parade.
    • COAS visited the Infantry Gunnery Tactical Simulator IGTS Centre. He witnessed the state-of-the-art simulators, which enable troops to hone their weaponry skills & commanders to improve tactical decision-making abilities.

  • Lieutenant General Ravin Khosla has taken over as the Deputy Chief of Army Staff (IS & C) of the Indian Army. The General Officer has the distinction of commanding the prestigious.
  • The Deputy Chiefs of the Army Staff (DCOAS) are Principal Staff Officers (PSOs) of the Indian Army and are three-star rank appointments held by Lieutenant-Generals. Currently, the rank of DCOAS has three divisions: – Capability Development and Sustenance, Information Systems & Coordination and Strategy.

Two-day Conference Of ADGs & DDGs Of NCC Begins

  • The two-day bi-annual conference of National Cadet Corps (NCC) commenced in New Delhi on April 05, 2022. Additional Directors General and Deputy Directors General representing all NCC Directorates across the country are attending the conference.
  • Major topics being discussed in the conference include early implementation of the ongoing expansion plan of NCC as per Government’s directives to meet the aspirations of the youth of the country.
  • DG NCC highlighted the efforts made in the last six months to improve the training, infrastructure and logistic functions of the organisation. He reiterated the commitment of NCC to motivate young Indians and transform them into responsible citizens. He stressed the need for institutionalised training to be the main focus of all Directorates.

Israel, US Approve Sale of Arrow 3 Air Defense System to Germany

  • The US and Israel have approved the sale of Arrow 3 interceptor for longer-range threats, and the sides are set to discuss further details.
  • The purchase of the air defence system “starts with the approval of Israel and the United States and they gave us the approval “.
  • Additionally, Germany is interested in buying the Iron Dome system because it is used for repelling short-range threats.
  • Arrow 3- The Arrow 3 or Hetz 3 is an exoatmospheric hypersonic anti-ballistic missile, jointly funded, developed and produced by Israel and the United States. Undertaken by Israel Aerospace Industries and Boeing, it is overseen by the Israeli Ministry of Defense’s “Homa” administration and the U.S. Missile Defense Agency.

76% Of Organizations Suffered Downtime and Data Loss In 2021

  • Acronis, the global leader in cyber protection, has released its annual Cyber Protection Week Global Report 2022 timed to this year’s World Backup Day.
  • The report which surveyed over 6,200 IT users and IT managers from small businesses to enterprises across 22 countries, exposes some of the most critical shortcomings appearing in cyber protection practices today, examines why they are appearing and offers guidance on how they can be fixed.
  • 80 per cent of organizations ran as many as 10 solutions simultaneously for data protection and cybersecurity — yet more than half of them suffered downtime because of data loss. Clearly, more solutions do not translate into more protection.
  • This downtime stemmed from a number of sources, including system crashes (52 percent), human error (42 percent), cyberattacks (36 percent) and insider attacks (20 percent).
  • * 66 percent of users would not know or be able to tell if their data had been modified.
  • * 43 percent of users are not sure if their anti-malware solutions could protect against new and emerging cyberthreats.
