12th SSC POP & Farewell Ceremony Held at INS Valsura

  • 19 officers successfully completed 12th SSC (X / IT) course on 03 July 2021 from INS Valsura portal. Commodore Gautam Marwaha, Commanding Officer, INS Valsura, VSM inspected the ‘Passing Out Parade’ (POP), which was organized by these officers after completing 19 weeks of professional training.

About INS Valsura:

  • Commissioned in 1942 as the Torpedo Training School of The Royal Indian Navy.
  • The name Valsura means ‘Swordfish’.
  • Commanding Officer: Commodore Gautam Marwaha, VSM.
  • Location: Jamnagar, Gujarat.
  • INS Valsura today houses the electrical equipment school, electrical technology school, basic electrical school, information technology school, center for electronics engineering and the training design and evaluation cell.
  • Motto: “Tasya Bhasa Sarvamidam Vibhati” which meant “The light that emanates from here, illuminates all.”

GRSE Kolkata bags order for supply of patrol boats to Bangladesh

  • The 13 metres six surveillance patrol boats for Marine Fisheries Surveillance Check-post (MFSC), Government of Bangladesh, will be used in surveillance activities, shallow water operations and patrolling fishing grounds day and night for illegal fishing gear and retrieval of survivors. The patrol crafts will be fitted with a water jet drive, suitable for shallow water operation up to 0.60 metres.
  • GRSE had also delivered a Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) to the Government of Seychelles and bagged an order on competitive bidding for construction and supply of one ocean-going passenger & cargo vessel for the Republic of Guyana.
  • The shipbuilding company has been an exporter of prefabricated steel bridges to friendly countries like Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar and Sri Lanka for use in disaster management.
  • Achieving over 90 per cent indigenous content onboard ASW Corvettes and Landing Craft Utility ships, GRSE has modernized its infrastructure facilities.
  • Today, GRSE can construct 20 warships concurrently using advanced modular integrated shipbuilding technology in line with the best in the world.

India to maintain warships in Gulf zone to aid merchant ships

  • “The Strait of Hormuz is a major chokepoint. Disruption in trade in this region can have a major impact on our economy. Under `Operation Sankalp’, we will continue to deploy a frontline warship, either a destroyer or a frigate with a helicopter and a marine commando intervention team, in the region,” a senior Navy officer said.
  • “Around 60% of India’s oil imports, after all, comes from this region. Despite diversification of sources for import of oil, Gulf countries are likely to continue as major suppliers for India. Moreover, the Indian diaspora numbers around 8.5 million in the region,” he added.
  • Operation Sankalp is now a part of the “mission-based deployments (MBDs)” launched by the Navy in 2017 in the Indian Ocean Region, stretching from the Persian Gulf to the Malacca Strait.
