India – Japan Maritime Bilateral Exercise, JIMEX

  • The fifth edition of India – Japan Maritime Bilateral Exercise, JIMEX, between the Indian Navy (IN) and the Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF), will be held in Arabian Sea from 06 to 08 October 2021. JIMEX series of exercises commenced in January 2012 with special focus on maritime security cooperation. The last edition of JIMEX was conducted in September 2020.
  • JIMEX-21 aims to develop common understanding of operational procedures and enhance inter-operability through conduct of a multitude of advanced exercises, across the entire spectrum of maritime operations. Multi-faceted tactical exercises involving weapon firings, cross-deck helicopter operations and complex surface, anti-submarine and air warfare drills will consolidate coordination developed by the two navies.
  • Naval cooperation between India and Japan has increased in scope and complexity over years. JIMEX-21 will further enhance the cooperation and mutual confidence between the two navies and fortify the long-standing bond of friendship between the two countries.

Mental Health Awareness Campaign Week

  • Shri Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare has brought the focus on mental health as being intrinsic to physical health and wellness.
  • The Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare is observing Mental Health Awareness Campaign Week beginning from today and culminating on the World Mental health Day.
  • 10th October is observed globally as the World Mental Health Day to raise awareness on mental health issues and mobilize efforts to support mental health.
  • As part of the activities envisaged for the Mental Health Awareness Campaign Week, Shri Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare and Chemical & Fertilizers released the UNICEF’s State of the World’s Children Report today. The report takes a comprehensive look at the mental health of children, adolescents, and caregivers in the 21st century. As highlighted in the report, the COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on children’s mental health.

State of the World’s Children report of UNICEF

  • Shri Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare released UNICEF’s global flagship publication – “The State of the World’s Children 2021; On My Mind: promoting, protecting and caring for children’s mental health”.
  • The report details the significant impact of COVID-19 pandemic on children’s mental health.
  • Dr. Yasmin Ali Haque, UNICEF India Representative presented some key findings of the report. The State of the World’s Children 2021 has found that around 14 percent of 15 to 24-year-olds in India, or 1 in 7, reported often feeling depressed or having little interest in doing things. “Children have not only been living an emotional tragedy, but many are also at a higher risk of neglect and abuse,” she said.

Nobel Prize for Physics Awarded to Scientists from Japan, Germany, Italy

  • Syukuro Manabe and Klaus Hasselmann were, cited for their work in the physical modeling of Earth’s Climate, quantifying variability and reliably predicting global warning.
  • The second half of the prize was awarded to Giorgio Parisi for the discovery of the interplay of disorder and fluctuations in physical systems from atomic to planetary scales.
  • The winners were announcing today by secretary general of the Royals Swedish Academy of sciences Mr. Goran Hansson.
  • The prestigious award comes with a gold medal and 10 million Swedish Kronor. The prize money comes from a bequest left by the prize creator, Swedish inventor Alfred Nobel, who died in 1895.
  • Manabe is of US and Japanese origin, Klaus Hasselmann hails from Germany while Parisi is from Italy.

Amazon’s Astro Robot

  • Amazon has unveiled its ‘Astro’ home robot, which is designed to help customers with a range of tasks like home monitoring and staying connected with family.
  • Astro is primed to be a home security device. It is designed to move around the home and keep a check on pets and detect something unusual in the absence of the owner.
  • However, civil society has highlighted the concerns of privacy issues of 24×7 surveillance.

GI tagged Sweet Dish Mihidana

  • In an effort to promote indigenous & Geographical Identification (GI) tagged products, first consignment of GI tagged sweet dish Mihidana sourced from Bardhaman, West Bengal has been exported to the Kingdom of Bahrain.
  • The consignment of unique sweet dish Mihidana was exported to Bahrain by APEDA registered M/S DM Enterprises, Kolkata and imported by Aljazira Group, Bahrain. The sweet dish from West Bengal is being displayed (also provided for tasting purpose) to consumers at Aljazira super stores in Bahrain. More consignments of the unique sweet dish would be exported to Bahrain during forthcoming Diwali festival.
