India’s First Open Rock Museum Inaugurated

  • Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh inaugurates India’s first Open Rock Museum displaying around 35 different types of rocks from different parts of India with ages ranging from 3.3 Billion years to around 55 Million years of the Earth’s history
  • Says, “Big Earth Data” occupy the strategic high ground in the era of knowledge economies and India is fully exploiting this new frontier
  • The Minister addresses the scientists and officials of CSIR-National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI), Hyderabad.
  • Geosciences is contributing significantly towards the self-reliance and national priorities in New India: Dr. Jitendra Singh
  • Dr. Jitendra Singh also released Earthquake Risk Maps of Lucknow and Dehradun Cities for risk assessment and earthquake resistant design systems

National Conference on E-governance

  • The Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances (DARPG) and Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, in association with the State Government of Telangana will organize the 24th Conference on e-Governance (NCeG) 2020-21 on 7th – 8th January 2022 in Hyderabad, Telangana. The theme of this Conference is ‘India’s Techade: Digital Governance in a Post Pandemic World’.
  • The Conference will be inaugurated by the Chief Guest Dr. Jitendra Singh.
  • National Awards for e-Governance 2021 will be presented awards under 6 categories of the Award Scheme to 26 e-Governance initiatives at Central, State, and District levels and also to Academic & Research Institutions and Public Sector Undertaking. This includes 12 Gold, 13 Silver, and 1 Jury Award.
  • Digital innovation will play an important part in the next decade for governance, and this will necessitate conversations around topics and technologies which would shape Digital Governance in the future. This conference will be a platform for discussion on some of these technologies by inviting distinguished speakers to share their knowledge and insights on these topics.
  • Discussions will be held on six sub-themes in the Plenary session during the Conference:

  • Acting Against Touts, Registered More Than 4,100 Cases, Arrested More Than 4,600 Offenders, Forfeited Railway Tickets Worth Rs 2.8 Cr.
  • Deployed 244 “Meri Saheli” Teams At Major Railway Stations.
  • Railway Protection Force (RPF) tasked with the responsibility of security of railway property, passenger area, and passengers, has been working round the clock for providing a safe, secure and comfortable travel experience to the passengers. It helps Indian Railways in providing safe freight transport service to its customers. RPF has ably discharged the responsibility of protection of huge assets of railways spread far and wide across the country by taking preventive measures as well as measures for detection of crime against railway property.
  • During  2021, RPF has arrested more than three thousand criminals involved in offenses against passengers and handed them over to concerned Police. RPF has also apprehended eight thousand 744 persons last year involved in such crime with the recovery of stolen Railway Property worth around six crore rupees.

‘One District-One Product’

  • Food Processing Industries Minister Pashupati Kumar Paras launched six brands developed as part of the ‘One District-One Product’ approach under the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro food processing Enterprises Scheme in New Delhi yesterday.
  • The products are Amrit Phal, Cori Gold, Kashmiri Mantra, Madhu Mantra, Somdana, and Whole Wheat Cookies of Dilli Bakes.
  • The Ministry has signed an agreement with NAFED for developing ten brands of selected One District One Product under the branding and marketing component of the scheme. According to NAFED, all the products come in unique and attractive packaging to ensure a longer shelf life of the product and keep it fresh.
  • The Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro food processing Enterprises Scheme is a centrally sponsored scheme that aims to enhance the competitiveness of existing individual micro-enterprises in the unorganized segment of the food processing industry and to provide support to Farmer Producer Organizations, Self Help Groups, and Producers Cooperatives along their entire value chain.

NHPC Signs Promoters Agreement With GEDCOL

  • National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) India’s premier hydropower company has signed Promoters Agreement with Green Energy Development Corporation of Odisha Ltd. (GEDCOL), a leading State PSU in the renewable energy sector in Odisha on 04th January 2022 for “Development of 500 MW Floating Solar Projects on different water bodies in Odisha.
  • The first stage of the project will have an outlay exceeding Rs 2000 Crore and will generate about 600 MU of energy per year. It is the first of its kind in Odisha and the largest in the country so far. The project will help the State to meet its renewable energy generation target and purchase obligation besides creating investment and employment opportunities.

Nari Shakti Puraskar 2021

  • The Women and Child Development Ministry have invited nominations for the Nari Shakti Puraskar for the year 2021. The nominations will be accepted only through online mode by the end of this month.
  • The Nari Shakti award recognizes outstanding work in the fields of economic and social empowerment of women. The award will be conferred by the Women and Child Development Ministry on the occasion of International Women’s Day on the 8th of March this year. The Ministry confers Nari Shakti Puraskar every year to individuals and institutions in recognition of their service towards the cause of women’s empowerment. A certificate and two lakh rupees will be given to the awardee.

Amendment to Jagannath Temple Act, 1954

  • Odisha state cabinet has approved amendments to the Sri Jagannath Temple Act of 1954.
  • 1806, the then British government had issued regulations for the management of the Jagannath temple which was referred to as the Juggernaut temple by the colonial rulers.
  • Under these regulations, pilgrims who visited the temple were expected to pay taxes.
  • The powers of management of the temple were passed on to the King of Khordha after three years while the colonial government continued to retain some control.
  • After India gained Independence, the Jagannath Temple Act was introduced in the year 1952, which came into effect in 1954.
  • The Act contains provisions on land rights of the temple, duties of the sevayat (priests), administrative powers of the Shri Jagannath Temple Managing Committee, rights, and privileges of the Raja of Puri, and other persons connected with the management and administration of the temple.
  • Post Amendments The power will now be delegated to temple administration and concerned officials for the sale and lease of land in the name of Jagannath temple.
  • Unlike earlier, no approval will be required from the state government for the process.
  • Section 16 (2) of the act states that no immovable property taken possession of by the temple committee shall be leased out, mortgaged, sold, or otherwise alienated except with the previous sanction of the State Government.
