NALSA to hold 2nd National Lok Adalat of 2021

  • NALSA is set to organize the second National Lok Adalat of the year on July 10 under the guidance of NALSA Executive Chairman, Justice UU Lalit.
  • The First such was organized on April10 in 22 states and UTs where over 9.7 lakh cases were taken up out of which 2.3 lakh cases were pre-litigation cases and more than 7.3 lakh cases were pending cases. More than 4.8 lakh cases were disposed of wherein cases worth of over Rs 2440 crore were settled.
  • National Legal Services Authority of India was formed on 9 November 1995 under the authority of the Legal Services Authorities Act 1987.

Ganesan Sandhirakasan wins top prize in Silambam

  • An Indian named Ganesan Sandhirakasan has won the top prize in a government-initiated competition for migrant workers in Singapore for his performance of Silambam.
  • It is an ancient weapon-based martial art that emerged in Tamilakam, the term Silambam contains a meaning which itself reveals about the sport, ‘silam’ stands for a ‘mountain’ and ‘bam’ stands for bamboo which is the main weapon used in this form of martial arts.

“Matsya Setu” App for Fish Farmers

  • Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying has launched the Online Course Mobile App “Matsya Setu” for fish farmers.
  • The app was developed by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (ICAR-CIFA) and National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB).
  • It aims to disseminate the latest freshwater aquaculture technologies to the aqua farmers of the country, thus increasing the productivity and income.
  • Aquaculture is breeding, raising, and harvesting fish, shellfish, and aquatic plants.
  • India is the second major producer of fish through aquaculture in the world.

China Bans Construction of Tallest Skyscrapers

  • China has prohibited the construction of the tallest skyscrapers amid mounting concerns over the safety and quality of such projects.
  • Beijing has officially set a structure-height limit of 500 meters for all its future skyscrapers.
  • According to the country’s top planning agency, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), buildings taller than 500 meters will no longer be approved for construction.
  • Also, structures over 250 meters are to be limited, while buildings taller than 100 meters will be examined about the fire-rescue capacity of their locations.
