Soldier Killed As Army Foils Infiltration Bid By Terrorists In J&K

A soldier was killed as the Army thwarted an infiltration bid by terrorists along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district early Tuesday, officials said. “Alert troops foiled an infiltration bid by effectively engaging infiltrating terrorists … in the Battal sector at 0300 hours,” White Knight Corps said.

Lance Naik Subash Kumar was injured in the intense gunfight and later succumbed, they said, adding terrorists too suffered “loss”.

The post-mortem has been conducted and the soldier’s body handed over to the Army, a police officer said. A search operation has been launched in the area, the officials said.

Terrorist Killed, Soldier Injured

An unidentified terrorist was killed, and a soldier injured in an overnight encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district, the Army said. “Based on specific input regarding presence of terrorists in general area Kowut, Kupwara, a Joint Search Operation was launched by Indian Army and J&K Police on days leading up to 23 July 24,” the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps posted on X.

In last 32 months, 48 army soldiers have been killed in terrorist attacks in Jammu. After almost every attack, terrorists manage to escape without suffering a casualty of their own.

It said suspicious movement was noticed on Tuesday and the suspects were challenged by vigilant troops. In response, terrorists opened indiscriminate fire, leading to a gunbattle.

“In the ensuing fire fight one terrorist has been eliminated and a NCO injured. Operation is in progress,” the Army added.

500 Para Commandos Deployed In J&K

In view of the infiltration of highly trained Pakistani terrorists in the Jammu region, the Indian Army is readjusting its deployments in the area as per intelligence inputs and security requirements. The Indian Army has deployed around 500 Para Special Forces commandos in the area to hunt down the 50-55 terrorists from Pakistan who have entered the region to revive terrorism there, defence sources told news agency ANI. The Army has already brought in troops to the area including one brigade strength of around 3,500-4000 personnel to counter Pakistan’s proxy aggression here, they said.
