‘Paryatan Mitra’ And ‘Paryatan Didi’

  • On the occasion of World Tourism Day, the Ministry of Tourism has launched a national responsible tourism initiative titled Paryatan Mitra and Paryatan Didi.
  • The primary aim of this initiative is to elevate the overall experience for tourists in destinations, by having them meet ‘tourist-friendly’ people who are proud Ambassadors and Storytellers for their destination.

  • Ministry said that under this initiative, special emphasis is being placed on the training of women and youth to enable them develop new tourism products and experiences like heritage walks, food tours, craft tours, nature treks, homestay experiences, and other innovative tourism products based on the potential of the destination.
  • Tourism-specific training is being followed by general training in digital literacy and digital tools to ensure that the experiences they create are discoverable and visible to tourists, nationally and globally.

India, Uzbekistan

  • India and Uzbekistan signed a Bilateral Investment Treaty, BIT in Tashkent on Friday. The Treaty was signed by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, Khodjayev Jamshid Abdukhakimovich.
  • The BIT between India and Uzbekistan assures appropriate protection to Uzbekistan investors in India and Indian investors in Uzbekistan, in light of relevant international precedents and practices.

  • The Treaty will boost the confidence of investors by assuring a minimum standard of treatment and non-discrimination, while providing for an independent forum for dispute settlement through arbitration.
  • It also provides for transparency, transfers and compensation for losses. The Finance Ministry said the signing of the BIT reflects both nations’ shared commitment towards enhancing economic cooperation and creating a more robust and resilient investment environment.
  • The Treaty is expected to pave the way for increased bilateral investments, benefiting businesses and economies in both countries.

Ministry Of AYUSH

  • Ayush Minister Prataprao Jadhav said the Ministry is committed to the welfare of the people. Briefing media in New Delhi on the achievements of his Ministry in the last 100 days, Mr Jadhav said the Ministry and World Health Organisation signed a donor agreement to improve the integration of Ayush systems into the global healthcare system.

  • The Minister highlighted the MoU with Vietnam on Medicinal Plants to advance traditional medicine practices worldwide and the MoU with Malaysia on Ayurveda to promote research, knowledge exchange, and the creation of Ayurvedic treatment regimens.
  • The union minister said that the Pharmacopoeia Commission for Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy and the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding to carry out the One Herb, One Standard initiative.

  • To guarantee easy access to Ayush medications, the government intends to open special medical stores at every tehsil level. He informed that 14,692 Ayush camps were organized around the country to meet the healthcare needs of the elderly.
  • Mr Jadhav said that his Ministry convened a review meeting to incorporate Ayurvedic packages under the Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana to incorporate Ayush treatment into mainstream healthcare.
  • Ayush Minister Prataprao Jadhav announced the theme of 9th Ayurveda Day as “Ayurveda innovation for Global Health”. This year, Ayurveda Day will be celebrated on 29th October. At the curtain raiser event in Delhi, the Minister said the theme underscores the potential of Ayurveda’s contribution in global health system through various innovative practice solutions.
  • The Ayurveda day is observed every year on the auspicious occasion of Dhanwantari Jayanti, also known as Dhanteras.

  • Since 2016, Ayurveda Day has been celebrated annually. The celebration reflects the commitment of India for the promotion of Ayurveda as an indispensable part of the holistic healthcare system of Indian traditional medicine system and overall healthcare culture of India. Ministry of Ayush has introduced its ‘Swarna Prasan’ initiative in Odisha’s Kalahandi district, aimed at boosting immunity and cognitive function through traditional Ayurvedic formulations.

Global Anti-Corruption Alliance

  • India has been elected to the 15-member GlobE Steering Committee, which focuses on combating corruption and asset recovery. This decision was made during a plenary session in Beijing, following a multistage voting process.

  • As a member of the Steering Committee, India is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the global anti-corruption agenda, leveraging its experience and expertise in the field.
  • The GlobE Network originated as an initiative from the G-20, supported by India in 2020. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has highlighted that India’s participation will be instrumental in tackling corruption globally.

“Pact For The Future”

  • World leaders have officially adopted the “Pact for the Future,” which is an important agreement aimed at promoting global peace, sustainability, and inclusivity for future generations.
  • This declaration is designed to address the pressing issues that the world faces today and ensure a better tomorrow for everyone.

  • The Pact includes two main parts:
  • Global Digital Compact: This framework aims to make the digital world more accessible, secure, and fair for everyone. It recognizes that as technology becomes more integrated into our lives, it is crucial to ensure that all people can benefit from it equally.
  • Declaration on Future Generations: This document focuses on making commitments to protect the rights and opportunities of future generations. It stresses the importance of taking action now to ensure that children and grandchildren can have a better life and access to resources.

Mankidia Community

  • Mankidia community became the 6th particularly vulnerable tribal group (PVTG) PVTG to get habitat rights over forests in Odisha.The Mankidia are a semi-nomadic community known for their traditional skill of rope making, trapping and eating monkeys.
  • Mankidia community is an Austro-Asiatic community that ekes out a living mainly from the forests. They constitute a semi-nomadic section of the Birhor tribe. They have been identified as a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) in Odisha.

  • They are primarily a food gathering and hunting community. They are one of the most little-known forest dwelling and wandering communities of the state as well as the country.
  • They wander inside forests in small bands and stay at different tandas the temporary makeshift settlements consisting of temporary dome-shaped leaf huts known as Kumbhas.
  • They speak a form of Munda language and some of them are also conversant in Odia. They believe in both malevolent and benevolent spirits and Gods. Logobir and Budhimai are their supreme deities.
  • They worship their ancestors for the purpose of enjoying health and achieving success in hunting and collecting forest produce.
  • They are mainly found in Odisha, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal. PVTGs are more vulnerable among the tribal groups.
  • In1975, the Government of India declared 52 tribal groups as PVTGs on the recommendation of the Dhebar Commission.
  • Currently, there are 75 PVTGs out of 705 Scheduled Tribes.
  • PVTGs are spread over 18 states and one Union Territory (UT), in the country (2011 census).
  • Odisha has the highest number (more than 2.5 lakh) of PVTGs.
