Delivery of Yard 3026 (Nirdeshak)
- Nirdeshak (Yard 3026), 2nd of four Survey Vessel (Large) ships, steered by the Indian Navy’s Warship Design Bureau and being built at Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata was delivered to the Indian Navy.
- The first ship of the class, INS Sandhayak, was commissioned on 03 Feb 24. The contract for four Survey Vessels (SVL) was signed on 30 Oct 18.
- The ship will also collect oceanographic and geophysical data for defence and civil applications. With a displacement of about 3400 tons and overall length of 110 meters.
- Nirdeshak has an indigenous content of over 80% by cost. The delivery of Nirdeshak is a reassurance on impetus of the Government of India and the Indian Navy towards ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’.
CRPF Undertakes Mega Plan To Realign Over 130 Battalions
- The CRPF is undertaking a “massive” exercise of realigning more than 130 of its battalions spread across the country to improve the operational efficiency of the force and provide quality “family time” to its troops deployed extensively in operations and hard duty areas, official sources said.
- The mega exercise is being carried out after eight years. It was approved by the Union home ministry last week.
- As part of the realignment, a total of 137 battalions of the force out of the total 248, will be attached with those group centres (GCs) that are geographically closer to their place of deployment, as per a blueprint accessed by PTI.
- Special CRPF battalions like those rendering VIP security and anti-riots Rapid Action Force (RAF) will not be included in this process.
DAE Inaugurates MACE
- The Major Atmospheric Cherenkov Experiment (MACE) Observatory has been inaugurated by Dr. Ajit Kumar Mohanty, Secretary DAE & Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission, at Hanle, Ladakh, on 4th October 2024.
- MACE is the largest imaging Cherenkov telescope in Asia. Located at an altitude of ~4,300 m, it is also the highest of its kind in the world.
- The telescope is indigenously built by BARC with support from ECIL and other Indian industry partners. The inaugural of MACE Observatory was a part of the Platinum Jubilee year celebrations of the DAE.
- The Atomic Energy Commission of India (AEC) is the governing body of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE). The AEC was established in 1958 within the DAE, which is directly under the charge of the Prime Minister.
- The Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) was setup on August 3, 1954, under the direct charge of the PM through a Presidential Order. Subsequently, in accordance with a Government Resolution dated March 1, 1958, the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) was established in the Department of Atomic Energy.
Crucial Top Army Brass Meet In Sikkim
- In a strong message to China, the top brass of the Indian Army led by Gen Upendra Dwivedi would be meeting in Sikkim near the Line of Actual Control. where they would be addressed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
- The meeting planned to be held in Sikkim from October 10-11 would be addressed by the top defence brass including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, they said.Recently, Gen Dwivedi had stated that the situation with China on the borders was stable but not normal.
- He had also pointed out that trust between the Indian Army and the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) was “the biggest casualty” of the dragging military standoff with China in the sensitive theatre.
Netanyahu Says Israel has ‘taken out’ Hassan Nasrallah’s Successors
- Israeli forces have killed the would-be successors of late Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Tuesday, without naming them.
- Netanyahu said, “We’ve degraded Hezbollah’s capabilities. We took out thousands of terrorists, including Nasrallah himself and Nasrallah’s replacement, and the replacement of the replacement.”
- Netanyahu attributed Lebanon’s downfall to “a gang of tyrants and terrorists” and specifically highlighted Iran’s assistance Hezbollah.
- “Israel has decided to put an end to this. We’ve decided to do whatever is necessary to return our people safely to their homes. Israel has a right to defend itself. Israel also has a right to win. And Israel will win,” he added.
- Last year, on October 7 Hamas launched a massive terror attack against Israel killing over 1200 people and holding over 250 as hostages, out of whom around 100 are still in captivity.
Armenia To Purchase 90 Indian 155mm ATGS
- Armenia has recently confirmed its decision to procure 84 of the Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS) from India, an investment of $155 million. This deal marks a notable development in the defence sector, showcasing India’s emerging stature as a major arms supplier on the global stage.
- The ATAGS (Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System), a joint project developed by the DRDO in collaboration with private sector entities, represents a leap forward in artillery technology.
- ATAGS is a 155mm/52-caliber towed artillery, with a horizontal angle from minus 20 to 25 degrees and a vertical one from minus 3 to 70 degrees, ATAGS can reach targets at a maximum firing range of 48 km, 3 times in 15 seconds. With his specificities of high altitude use, it’s perfectly adapted to the Armenian environment.
ISRO To Build 3rd Launch Pad
- India’s space agency, ISRO, is advancing its capabilities with plans for a third launch pad at Sriharikota and the development of a Next Generation Launch Vehicle (NGLV), internally known as the “SOORYA” project. This initiative aims to enhance India’s space exploration and commercial launch capabilities.
- The third launch pad is essential due to the distinct configuration of the NGLV, which differs from existing rockets like the PSLV and GSLV. ISRO Chairman S. Somanath confirmed that this expansion is necessary to accommodate the new rocket’s requirements.
- The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Modi has approved the development of Next Generation Launch Vehicle (NGLV), that will be a significant step towards the Government’s vision of establishing & operating the Bharatiya Antariksh Station and towards developing capability for Indian Crewed Landing on the Moon by 2040.
- NGLV will have 3 times the present payload capability with 1.5 times the cost compared to LVM-3, and will also have reusability resulting in low-cost access to space and modular green propulsion systems.
