‘Anna Chakra’

  • Food and Public Distribution Minister Pralhad Joshi launched Anna Chakra, a tool to enhance the efficiency of the Public Distribution System (PDS) supply chain in New Delhi.
  • This tool will revolutionise and modernise the PDS logistics network and enable the seamless movement of food grains across the nation through route optimisation.

  • Besides, the Minister also launched a portal named subsidy claim application for national food security act (SCAN). The Portal will ensure end-to-end automation of processes for the release and settlement of food subsidies.
  • Mr Joshi said, these innovative steps will enhance transparency, efficiency, and accountability in the implementation of the PDS. He said, these steps are aimed towards modernising the Public Distribution System and subsidy claim mechanisms of the States.

PM Modi Meets Bhutan’s King

  • Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Queen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.
  • During the meeting, Mr. Modi admired Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck’s vision for Bhutan’s progress and regional development.

  • In a social media post, the Prime Minister said, both countries are committed to advancing the unique and enduring partnership between India and Bhutan. Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, and Queen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck reached New Delhi this morning on a two day visit to India.
  • External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar received them at the airport. India and Bhutan enjoy unique ties of friendship and cooperation, which are characterized by mutual understanding and trust.

ISRO Launches ESA’s PROBA-3 From Sriharikota

  • ISRO successfully launched the PSLV C-59 launch vehicle carrying PROBA 3 spacecraft into a highly elliptical orbit at Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota. It lifted off at 16.04 hours from the first launch pad at the spaceport in Sriharikota Range.

  • After the launch, ISRO on social media platform ‘X’ said, PSLV-C59 has successfully soared into the skies, marking the commencement of a global mission led by NewSpace India Limited, with ISRO’s technical expertise, to deploy European Space Agency’s groundbreaking PROBA-3 satellites.
  • PROBA 3 is an in-orbit demonstration mission of the European Space Agency. It consists of two spacecraft which will be launched together in a stacked configuration.
  • The mission will demonstrate new technologies for precise satellite positioning, formation flying, acquisition and proximity operations.
  • The successful launch today marks a significant milestone in commercial ventures engineered by ISRO. Demonstrated precisely the formation flying capabilities of ISRO through its technological prowess. PSLV C 59 reached the intended orbit 18 minutes after liftoff and two mini-satellites with a combined weight of 545 kgs were placed 600 kms above Earth.
  • The two satellites will fly in close formation to study the Sun’s outer atmosphere, known as Corona. Proba 3 is the second satellite of the European Space Agency to be launched by the Indian rocket. NewSpace India Limited is the commercial arm of ISRO.

Bharatiya Vayuyan Vidheyak 2024

  • A new bill, the Bharatiya Vayuyan Vidheyak, 2024, was introduced by Union Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu. This bill replaces the outdated Aircraft Act of 1934, which was passed in the Lok Sabha in August 2024.
  • The bill responds to recommendations from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The bill clarifies the responsibilities of aviation bodies, which enhances the role of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

  • The new legislation includes definitions for aircraft maintenance, design, and manufacturing. These definitions were absent in the previous act.
  • An appeal system for dispute resolution is also introduced. India’s aviation sector has seen rapid growth. The number of airports has increased from 74 in 2014 to 157.

  • The fleet size has also doubled, growing from 400 planes to 813. This expansion marks the need for updated regulations. There is a strong demand for new airports in various districts.
  • Minister Naidu emphasised the importance of expanding airport infrastructure. However, he warned of potential delays due to limited land availability. Addressing these challenges is essential for future growth.
  • The bill aims to resolve inconsistencies in current aviation laws, which seeks to create a clear regulatory framework. This clarity will promote ease of flying for passengers. Additionally, the new legislation aims to encourage foreign investment in the aviation sector. It aligns India’s aviation rules with global standards.

25th Anniversary Of Hornbill Festival

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended best wishes and congratulated the people of Nagaland on the completion of twenty-five years of the Hornbill Festival.

  • In a social media post, Mr Modi recalled that he has fond memories from his visit to this festival a few years back and urged citizens to visit and experience the vibrancy of Naga culture.
  • He also expressed happiness after witnessing the focus on waste management and sustainability during this year’s festival. The First Festival Was Held In 2000. The Festival Is Named After The Bird “Indian Hornbill”, Which Is Displayed In The Folklore Of Most Of The State’s Tribes.

North Korea-Russia Treaty Comes Into Force

  • The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty agreed upon by the leaders of North Korea and Russia in June came into force yesterday with the exchange of ratification instruments in Moscow.
  • North Korea’s KCNA news agency reported that it aims to accelerate the establishment of a multipolar world order free from domination and hegemony. The treaty, signed during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s June visit to Pyongyang, includes a mutual defence pact for military aid against armed aggression.
