In a significant development for military logistics, Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence has officially greenlit the deployment of a new unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) designed to enhance operational efficiency in combat zones. Named Zmiy, which translates to “snake” in Ukrainian, this cutting-edge robotic platform is capable of carrying a remarkable payload of up to 500 kilograms (1,102 pounds) and is engineered to extract light vehicles from perilous areas, showcasing its versatility and utility.

The Zmiy is equipped with advanced ballistic and mine protection systems, making it suitable for use in high-risk environments. Its design and capabilities are a product of Ukraine’s commitment to developing home-grown military technology that can withstand the rigors of modern warfare. The vehicle’s suitability for combat operations was underscored by the Main Directorate for the Support of the Life Cycle of Armaments and Military Equipment, which has stated that the UGV has been deliberately tailored to address the needs of military engagements.
