Brazil Joins OPEC+
- Brazil has officially announced its decision to join the OPEC+ group of oil-producing nations as an observer, marking a significant step in its energy policy. This move, approved by Brazil’s National Council for Energy Policy, allows the country to participate in strategic discussions with major oil-exporting nations while maintaining its independence in production decisions.
- The timing of this decision is crucial, as Brazil prepares to host the United Nations climate summit, reflecting its efforts to balance energy security and environmental commitments. Brazil’s observer status in OPEC+ means that while it will engage in policy discussions, it will not be required to adhere to production quotas.
- According to Mines and Energy Minister Alexandre Silveira, this platform provides an opportunity for Brazil to exchange views with key global oil producers and contribute to shaping energy market policies. Unlike full OPEC+ members, Brazil retains complete control over its production levels, ensuring it can adjust policies based on its national interests.
- The decision aligns with Brazil’s strategy to strengthen its presence in the global energy market. As one of the top oil producers in the world, Brazil seeks to leverage OPEC+ discussions to advocate for stable oil prices and sustainable energy practices.
- This participation is also expected to enhance diplomatic relations with other major energy players. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has emphasized that oil revenues will play a crucial role in funding Brazil’s green energy transition.

National Commission For Scheduled Tribes
- 22nd Foundation Day of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) was celebrated with a series of events highlighting the importance of the Commission’s role in protecting the rights and ensuring the development of Scheduled Tribes (STs) in India.
- Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Shri Jual Oram, lauded the proactive initiatives of the NCST, particularly its role in implementing and monitoring the Forest Rights Act.
- The event featured speeches, discussions, and presentations on the progress of tribal welfare and development. Key government programs aimed at improving the lives of Scheduled Tribes were also highlighted during the occasion. The NCST is a constitutional body established to safeguard the rights of Scheduled Tribes (STs) and protect their social, economic, educational, and cultural interests.

Kerala To Collect, Dispose Of Expired Drugs
- Kerala government has launched ‘New Programme for Removal of Unused Drugs’ (nPROUD) to collect and scientifically dispose of expired and unused medicines. This is the first government-led initiative in India to address the safe disposal of medicines, starting in Kozhikode Corporation and Ulliyeri Panchayat.
- Unused medicines will be collected from homes or designated disposal facilities, with plans for statewide expansion. Improper disposal of medicines can cause antimicrobial resistance, health hazards, and environmental pollution, making this initiative crucial.

- Union Minister Jitendra Singh has inaugurated India’s first ‘Open Air Art Wall Museum’ at Mausam Bhawan in New Delhi. India- Argentina Agreement For Lithium Exploration
- India and Argentina signed an MoU to expand cooperation in lithium exploration and investment. The agreement between MECL (India) and the Catamarca government aims to boost critical mineral resource development.
- The collaboration is expected to accelerate lithium exploration, enhance resource security, and create investment opportunities for Indian companies. Argentina, known for its vast lithium reserves as part of the ‘Lithium Triangle,’ is a crucial partner for India in securing essential minerals required for electric vehicle batteries and renewable energy storage.
- The discussions covered ongoing lithium exploration efforts by Khanij Bidesh India Ltd. (KABIL) & Greenko in Catamarca and the possibilities of increasing the participation of Indian companies in mining projects of Argentina.
