CRPF DG GP Singh Inspects Valley Quick Action Team's Operations in Kashmir

The Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), GP Singh, began an important tour of Kashmir on Monday, focusing on the operational capabilities of the CRPF Valley Quick Action Team (Valley QAT). This visit included a thorough inspection at the headquarters of the 115 Battalion and highlights the CRPF’s dedication to maintaining security and operational effectiveness in the region.

During his tour, DG Singh observed the advanced tactical capabilities and state-of-the-art weaponry utilized by the Valley QAT, known for its counter-terrorism operations in the urban settings of Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. Since its formation, the team has been instrumental in conducting 42 missions, which have led to the neutralization of 77 terrorists, including several key militant leaders. The unit’s accomplishments have garnered multiple gallantry awards, reinforcing its reputation as an agile and formidable force within the region.

Reports indicate that the Valley QAT is composed of 108 men and 18 women as of April 2023. The operatives undergo comprehensive training in high-risk house interventions, close-quarters combat, improvised explosive device detection, and advanced firearms handling. Selection for the unit involves a rigorous process, with volunteers under the age of 35 shortlisted based on their physical fitness and familiarity with the local terrain, and they work closely with the Jammu and Kashmir Police.

DG Singh’s visit underscores the CRPF’s unwavering commitment to national security, especially within the complex landscape of the Kashmir Valley. This tour continues a precedent of high-level assessments, following previous visits by CRPF leadership aimed at evaluating the current security dynamics amidst ongoing counter-terrorism initiatives.

Operating under the Ministry of Home Affairs, the CRPF remains a crucial force in ensuring peace and stability throughout India, with its Jammu and Kashmir Zone overseeing operations not just in Jammu and Kashmir, but also in Ladakh and surrounding states. The use of the hashtag “Nation First” in the CRPF’s communications further emphasizes the force’s pledge to protect the nation.
