Air Marshal MS Sridhar, the Deputy Chief (Medical) of the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (IDS), recently conducted an important review of the operational readiness and medical response capabilities of the 159 General Hospital and the 307 Field Hospital. The assessment focused on how effectively these facilities can operate in challenging environments, particularly in high-stress situations like combat or disasters.
During his visit, Air Marshal Sridhar emphasized several critical areas. At the 159 General Hospital, he thoroughly examined its disaster management preparedness. This evaluation was pivotal in ensuring the hospital’s capability to manage mass casualties and respond to medical emergencies in an efficient manner. The hospital’s readiness to deal with large-scale incidents is vital for ensuring that the armed forces are adequately supported during crises.
Equally significant was his assessment of the Quick Reaction Medical Team (QRMT) from the 4011 Field Hospital. Here, he focused on the team’s preparedness for handling Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) incidents. By closely evaluating the response protocols for these specialized and complex emergency scenarios, Air Marshal Sridhar aimed to reinforce the capacity of military medical teams to act decisively and properly in the face of such threats.
Another focal point of the review was the Penthouse Advanced Dressing Station (ADS) from the 307 Field Hospital. The capabilities of this station were scrutinized to ensure it can provide prompt medical assistance in forward operational areas, thus enhancing the surgical support available in critical battlefield conditions.
