Air Marshal Jeetendra Mishra, the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief (AOC-in-C) of the Indian Air Force’s Western Air Command, undertook an operational visit to key forward air bases in the western sector on February 28 and March 1, 2025. The primary purpose of this visit was to evaluate the operational preparedness and combat readiness of these strategically important installations, which are crucial to India’s national security.
During his visit, Air Marshal Mishra conducted thorough reviews of the bases’ operational abilities, ensuring that they are adequately equipped to tackle any regional security challenges that may arise. He engaged directly with the air warriors stationed at the bases, commending their unwavering dedication and professionalism in upholding high operational standards. This interaction emphasized his commitment to fostering a motivated and resilient workforce within the Indian Air Force.
A significant highlight of the visit was Air Marshal Mishra’s participation in air maintenance operations, where he flew a mission aboard a Chinook helicopter. By engaging directly in operational tasks, he was able to gain firsthand insights into the complexities of air operations in the region.
Air Marshal Mishra took command of the Western Air Command on January 1, 2025, following the tenure of Air Marshal Pankaj Mohan Sinha. With a distinguished career that began when he was commissioned as a fighter pilot on December 6, 1986, he brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his position. An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Air Marshal Mishra has also furthered his education at renowned institutions, including the Air Force Test Pilots School in Bangalore, the Air Command and Staff College in the USA, and the Royal College of Defence Studies in the UK.

His extensive experience includes numerous key command and staff appointments—most notably, he has served as the Commanding Officer of a Fighter Squadron and held the position of Chief Test Pilot at the Aircraft & Systems Testing Establishment (ASTE). His exemplary service has been recognized through prestigious awards such as the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) and the Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM).

The Western Air Command plays an essential role in securing India’s western frontiers, and under Air Marshal Mishra’s leadership, it continues to prioritize readiness, infrastructure modernization, and personnel welfare.
