“Sahkar” Taxi

  • Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah has announced that the government will launch the ‘Sahkar’ taxi, a cooperative-run ride-hailing service modeled after Uber and Ola.
  • Mr. Shah said the initiative is in line with Sahkar Se Samriddhi (Prosperity through Cooperatives). He mentioned that in a few months, a very large cooperative taxi service will be started, in which the registration of two-wheelers, taxis, rickshaws, and four-wheelers will be possible, and the profit will go directly to the driver.

  • Mr. Shah emphasized that “Sahkar Se Samriddhi”  is not just a slogan, and the Ministry of Cooperation has worked day and night over the past three and a half years to realize it. He also stated that a cooperative insurance company is soon going to be formed, which will handle insurance within the cooperative system of the country.

Chilean President To Embark Visit To India

  • President of the Republic of Chile, Gabriel Boric Font, will be on a five-day state visit to India starting on the 1st of April. He will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Ministers, Members of Parliament, senior officials, business associations, media and prominent Chileans involved in the India-Chile cultural connection.
  • This will be President Boric’s first visit to India as President. During the visit, President Boric will hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the 1st of April, covering the entire gamut of India- Chile relations.

  • The Prime Minister will host a lunch in honour of the visiting dignitary. President Boric will meet President Droupadi Murmu, who will host a banquet in his honor. President Boric will also visit Agra, Mumbai, and Bengaluru before returning to Chile on the 5th of April. In Mumbai and Bengaluru, he will meet the political leadership, business and industry representatives, startups, innovators and tech leaders.

  • India’s relations with Chile have traditionally been warm and friendly. Chile is an important partner for India in the Latin American region. Chile was the only country in the LAC region to send a Special Envoy to India’s Independence Day celebrations in 1947.
  • The two countries have commonality of views on several international issues including UNSC reforms, climate change, renewable energy and terrorism. Chile is also an important trading partner for India in the LAC region.
  • The forthcoming State Visit of President Boric will provide an opportunity for the leaders to undertake a comprehensive review of bilateral ties, as well as to discuss regional and international issues of mutual interest.

DNA Preservation Project

  • Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park in Darjeeling has become India’s first zoo to preserve DNA samples of wildlife found in snowy regions. The project, launched in collaboration with the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), Hyderabad, aims to aid conservation efforts for endangered species.
  • Chief Wildlife Warden Debal Roy confirmed that 60 DNA samples from indigenous animals, including red pandas and snow leopards, have already been collected. This cryogenic conservation initiative will support future research and genetic studies, ensuring that even if certain species face extinction, their genetic material remains preserved.

  • Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) YuWaah have signed a Statement of Intent (SOI) to empower rural women and youth across India.
  • The three-year partnership focuses on creating livelihood opportunities, promoting entrepreneurship, and enhancing digital infrastructure for rural communities.
  • Objectives of the Partnership
  • Strengthen livelihood opportunities for Self-Help Group (SHG) women through jobs, self-employment, and entrepreneurship.
  • Enhance female labor force participation in rural India.
  • Develop digital infrastructure through initiatives like Computer Didi Centers and Didi ki Dukan.
  • Expand youth skilling and job aggregation through innovative platforms like Youth Hub.
  • Support the government’s Lakhpati Didi initiative, enabling women to become successful entrepreneurs.

  • Key Initiatives Under the Collaboration
  • Digital Empowerment through “Computer Didi Centers” and “Didi ki Dukan”
  • These centers will provide digital literacy training and help women establish online businesses. The initiative will begin as a pilot project in five blocks across five states: Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and Rajasthan. If successful, it will scale up to benefit 35 lakh women across 7,000+ blocks in India.

India’s First National Cooperative University

  • Lok Sabha recently passed the Tribhuvan Sahkari University Bill, 2025, marking step in cooperative education in India. This initiative aims to establish the country’s first national cooperative university at the Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) in Gujarat.

  • The university is designed to enhance education, research, and training in the cooperative sector nationwide. The Tribhuvan Sahkari University will serve as a hub for cooperative training. It will register cooperative training institutes across all states as affiliated colleges. The university will offer degree, diploma, and PhD courses. It is projected that around 800,000 individuals will receive certification annually.
  • The university is named after Tribhuvandas Kishibhai Patel, a pioneer of the cooperative movement in India and the founder of Amul. The cooperative model initiated by Patel transformed the dairy industry, boosting rural economies.

  • The government plans to infuse ₹10,000 crore into the cooperative dairy sector. This funding will promote a circular economy, facilitating the provision of resources like fodder and veterinary services. Plans also include the establishment of a cooperative insurance company and the introduction of ‘Sahkar Taxi’, which will operate similarly to ride-sharing services.

  • Addressing these issues is crucial for enhancing their competitiveness and operational efficiency. The success of Dx-EDGE relies on a Public-Private-Academia Partnership (PPAP) approach. This collaborative framework includes private sector involvement, government support, and academic resources. Such partnerships are vital for facilitating MSMEs’ digital transformation journeys.
