Navkar Mahamantra Divas
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the Navkar Mahamantra Divas in New Delhi.
- Navkar Mahamantra Divas is a momentous celebration of spiritual harmony and ethical consciousness that seeks to unite people through the collective chanting of the Navkar Mahamantra – the most revered and universal chant in Jainism. People from more than 108 countries will join the global chant for peace and togetherness.
- Rooted in the principles of nonviolence, humility, and spiritual elevation, the mantra pays homage to the virtues of enlightened beings and inspires inner transformation. The Divas encourage all individuals to reflect on the values of self-purification, tolerance, and collective well-being.
BIMSTEC Agriculture Meet In Nepal
- Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan will take part in the 3rd BIMSTEC Agriculture Ministerial Meeting in Nepal. In a statement, the Ministry of Agriculture informed that Mr Chouhan will meet Nepal Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli and Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Development Ramnath Adhikari.

- During his visit, the Memorandum of Understanding will be signed between the two nations on cooperation in the field of agriculture. The minister will also hold a bilateral meeting with the minister of agriculture and livestock of Bhutan.
₹22,919 Cr Electronics Component Scheme
- Government has issued a notification for the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme. Recently, the Union Cabinet approved this scheme with a funding of 22,919 crore rupees to make India Atmanirbhar in the electronics supply chain.
- Addressing the media in New Delhi about the scheme, Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw said that after the issuance of the notification, the process of holding consultations with the industries will begin for framing the guidelines for the implementation of the scheme. He added that within a few weeks, a portal will be opened for receiving applications under the scheme.

- Mr Vaishnaw highlighted that in the last ten years, the country has registered a remarkable growth in the electronics sector. He said that in the last ten years, electronics manufacturing has increased by five times while electronics exports registered a sixfold growth. Mr Viashnaw also informed that mobile phone exports surpassed 2 lakh crore rupees in the 2024-25 financial year, registering a growth of 54 per cent over 2023-24. The union minister also said that in the last decade, 25 lakh jobs have been created in the sector.
‘One State, One RRB’
- Department of Financial Services (DFS) has notified the amalgamation of 26 Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) under the “One State, One RRB” principle. This is the fourth phase of the RRB consolidation process.

- The Ministry of Finance rolled out the amalgamation plan in November last year, building on improvements in efficiency from previous phases. Following consultations with stakeholders, 26 RRBs across 10 states and one Union Territory have been merged, focusing on enhancing scale, efficiency, and cost rationalisation.
- Currently, 43 RRBs operate across 26 states and two Union Territories. Post-amalgamation, there will be 28 RRBs covering 700 districts with more than 22,000 branches. Around 92 percent of these branches are located in rural and semi-urban areas.
US Imposes 104% Tariffs On Chinese Imports
- United States said that 104 percent duties on imports from China will take effect today. Initially, China was set to face a 34 percent tariff increase as part of President Trump’s reciprocal tariffs package.

- However, after Beijing refused to withdraw its promise to impose 34 percent retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods, the U.S. president escalated the situation by adding another 50 percent in duties. This brings the total tariff increase on China to a staggering 84 percent.
- White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that countries like China, who have chosen to retaliate and try to double down on their mistreatment of American workers, are making a mistake.
- Earlier, China’s Ministry of Commerce said it firmly opposes the additional 50 percent tariffs on Chinese imports, calling it a mistake upon a mistake. The ministry vowed to escalate its retaliation on US exports.
Bangladesh Inks ‘Artemis Accords’ With NASA
- Bangladesh has inked the ‘Artemis Accords’ as the 54th country with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), focused on non-military space exploration. The Artemis Accords, established in October 2020, are a set of non-binding agreements designed to promote peaceful and cooperative civil exploration of outer space.
- In the presence of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun and US Embassy in Dhaka Chargé d’Affaires Tracey Ann Jacobson, Bangladesh Defence Secretary Md Ashraf Uddin inked the accords.
- As of January 21, 2025, 53 countries have signed the accords, including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, India, United Arab Emirates, Australia and several European and Latin American countries.
- By signing the Accords, Bangladesh will be a part of prestigious international space alliances, Chowdhury Ashik mentioned. He said Bangladesh will be greatly benefited in terms of technology transfer, economic cooperation, and scientific collaboration through the accords.
- It will open the window to cooperation and collaboration between the Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Sensing Organisation (SPARRSO) and NASA and will enhance the current capacity of SPARRSO to accelerate the space mission, he added.

ISSF World Cup
- In shooting, Vijayveer Sidhu has become the first Indian to win gold in the men’s 25-meter rapid fire pistol event of the ISSF World Cup in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In the women’s category Suruchi Singh claimed her maiden gold in the 10-meter air pistol event. The double golds put India on top of the medals tally with four gold, one silver and a bronze.
