The Indian Naval Academy (INA) has achieved a significant milestone as Lieutenant Parul Singh secured second place in the women’s 21.1 km category at the ANC-ANA Half Marathon 2025. The event took place on April 13 at Netaji Stadium in Sri Vijaya Puram, Port Blair, showcasing a collective endeavor by the Andaman & Nicobar Command (ANC) and the Andaman & Nicobar Administration (ANA) aimed at promoting fitness and tourism in the picturesque Andaman & Nicobar Islands. This initiative aligns closely with the Fit India Movement, which encourages a healthier lifestyle, and emphasizes the potential for sports tourism development in the region.
Representing the Indian Naval Academy, Lt Parul Singh demonstrated remarkable endurance and determination throughout the grueling 21.1 km race. The marathon attracted participants from various neighboring islands and kicked off early in the morning, with the half marathon commencing at 5:00 AM, while the 10 km and 5 km races followed shortly after at 6:00 AM and 6:45 AM, respectively. The event was officiated by esteemed dignitaries, including Lieutenant Governor Admiral D K Joshi, who flagged off the 10 km run, and Air Marshal Saju Balakrishnan, Commander-in-Chief of the Andaman & Nicobar Command, who presided over the other races.
The aesthetic backdrop of the marathon was vividly embellished with vibrant designs featuring palm trees and celebratory motifs, reflecting the scenic charm of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Known for their pristine sandy beaches and crystal-clear turquoise waters, the region stands as an emerging center for sports tourism. This marathon not only promoted physical fitness but also highlighted the potential attractions of the islands, such as Chidyatapu Beach and Elephant Beach, renowned for their water sports activities and natural beauty.
The Indian Naval Academy, based in Ezhimala, Kerala, has a distinguished history of cultivating extraordinary officers, including the celebrated Commodore Arvind Singh, who received the Maha Vir Chakra for exceptional bravery during Operation Pawan in Sri Lanka. The accomplishment of Lt Parul Singh contributes to this legacy of excellence, showcasing the academy’s dedication to fostering talent both in sports and military service.
