According to defense sources, Lieutenant Narwal was serving as an IT officer as part of the 36th Naval Orientation Course after two years in the Navy, with his posting in Kochi. He was tragically killed instantly during the attack, while his wife was fortunate to survive the ordeal.
The attack has been claimed by The Resistance Front (TRF), which is linked to the banned militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). This horrific assault targeted tourists from various Indian states and also claimed the lives of two foreign nationals visiting from the UAE and Nepal.

One resident mentioned that the couple had initially planned a honeymoon in Switzerland but chose Kashmir due to leave constraints. Lieutenant Narwal’s twin sister and father have traveled to Kashmir to retrieve his remains, as the community holds candlelight vigils in his honor, reflecting a collective mourning for the loss.
The attack has drawn strong condemnation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who, through a post on social media platform X, vowed that those responsible for this egregious act would face justice. His remarks resonated with citizens throughout the nation as candlelight marches and protests erupted across Jammu and Kashmir, including Baramulla, Srinagar, Kupwara, and Poonch.
