Strong Measures Against Pakistan
- India has taken a series of strong measures following the Pahalgam terror attack, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, 1960, and closing the Integrated Check Post Attari with immediate effect.
- The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) reviewed the overall security situation in its meeting at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence last evening and directed all forces to maintain high vigil.
- Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that Pakistani nationals will not be permitted to travel to India under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) visas. He further stated that any SVES visas issued in the past to Pakistani nationals are deemed cancelled.
- He said any Pakistani national currently in India under an SVES visa has 48 hours to leave India. The Foreign Secretary informed that the Defence/Military, Naval and Air Advisors in the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi have been declared Persona Non Grata.
- He emphasised that they have a week to leave India. India will be withdrawing its own Defence/Navy/Air Advisors from the Indian High Commission in Islamabad. Mr Misri stated that these posts in the respective High Commissions are deemed annulled.
- Five support staff of the Service Advisors will also be withdrawn from both High Commissions. Foreign Secretary said, the overall strength of the High Commissions will be brought down to 30 from the present 55 through further reductions by 1st May.
- Mr Misri said the CCS, chaired by Prime Minister Modi, was briefed in detail on the terrorist attack that took place on Tuesday in Pahalgam. In the briefing to the CCS, the cross-border linkages of the terrorist attack were brought out.
- It was noted that this attack came in the wake of the successful holding of elections in Jammu and Kashmir and its steady progress towards economic growth and development.
- The CCS condemned the attack in the strongest terms and expressed its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and hoped for the early recovery of the injured. Strong expressions of support and solidarity have been received from many Governments around the world, which have unequivocally condemned this terror attack. The CCS recorded its appreciation for such sentiments, which reflect zero tolerance for terrorism.
World Immunization Week 2025
- World Immunization Week 2025 by the World Health Organisation (WHO) will begin from today across the globe. The week-long campaign will last till the 30th of this month.
- The World Immunization Week is celebrated in the last week of April to promote the life-saving power of immunization.
- The theme for this year is “Immunization for All is Humanly Possible”. This theme emphasizes the importance of ensuring everyone, regardless of age or location, has access to life-saving vaccines. The WHO claims that over the last 50 years, essential vaccines have saved at least 15 crore 40 lakh lives.
Garia And Borsho Boron Utsav’
- Tripura’s Chief Minister, Manik Saha, inaugurated the ‘Garia and Borsho Boron Utsav 2025’ in Agartala, a two-day cultural festival being held at the Swami Vivekananda Maidan.
- Organized by the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs, with support from various local bodies including the Tribal Welfare Department, the event aims to celebrate the region’s cultural heritage.
- The festival highlights the Garia Puja, an important religious celebration for the Tripuri and Reang communities, and features vibrant performances, traditional food stalls, and cultural exhibitions. The inauguration also saw the presence of various distinguished guests, underscoring the significance of this celebration for the indigenous people of Tripura.
Pink E Rickshaw Scheme With Kinetic Green
- Maharashtra government has launched the Pink E-Rickshaw Scheme to empower women and make them financially independent. The Pink E Rickshaw Scheme was officially launched by the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Ajit Pawar, at a function in Pune, where electric three-wheelers were distributed to selected beneficiaries.
- The Pink E Rickshaw Scheme is being administered by the state government’s Women & Child Development Department. The Kinetic Green Energy company is a partner with the state government in this initiative. The Kinetic Green company will provide the electric three-wheeler to the beneficiaries.
- Under the initiative, 10,000 e-rickshaws will be distributed in eight districts: Nagpur, Ahmednagar, Solapur, Kolhapur, Amravati, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Pune, and Nashik of Maharashtra.
AI Careers For Women’ Initiative
- Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and Microsoft have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch AI Careers for Women—a pioneering skilling initiative aimed at empowering women in higher education institutions to pursue careers in Artificial Intelligence (AI).
- This strategic collaboration seeks to bridge the gender gap in emerging tech by equipping women with industry-aligned AI skills, enabling them to participate meaningfully in the digital economy and become active contributors to India’s innovation-led growth.
- As part of this collaboration, Microsoft will provide 240-hours training curriculum under AI skilling and Innovation framework for women, aligned to the industry standards, and developed in consultation with the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET).
Vithya, Yashas Win 400 M Hurdles
- Olympian Vithya Ramraj won gold in the women’s 400-meter hurdles at the National Federation Senior Athletics Competition in Kochi yesterday, clocking 56.04 seconds to qualify for the Asian Championships 2025.
- Her time also set a new meet record, surpassing Saritaben Gayakwad’s 2019 mark of 57.21 seconds. Anu R finished second with 58.26 seconds, while Ashwini R took third with 1 minute 2.41 seconds.
- In the men’s 400-meter hurdles, Yashas Palaksha claimed gold with a personal best of 49.32 seconds. In the men’s hammer throw, Damneet Singh won gold with a 68.30-meter effort, while Praveen Kumar took silver and Gurdev Singh got bronze. In the women’s triple jump, Niharika Vashisht secured gold with a 13.49-meter leap.
India Finish ISSF World Cup Peru Leg In 3rd Place
- India finished their campaign of the Peru leg of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup in third place in the overall standings with a total of seven medals: two gold, four silver and one bronze. Simranpreet Kaur Brar won the silver medal in the women’s 25m pistol event to end the country’s campaign on a high.
- This was her first medal at the mega event as well. While the USA also ended with seven medals, they edged ahead of India to take second place, courtesy of a higher gold-medal count.
- China finished on top of the standings with four golds, three silvers and six bronze medals. This was the second shooting World Cup this season. India had won eight medals – four gold, two silver, and two bronze – at Buenos Aires earlier this month and finished second.
- Gold medal winners : Suruchi Singh in the women’s 10m air pistol event. She had also won the gold at the Buenos Aires event. Saurabh Chaudhary &Suruchi Singh in the 10m air pistol mixed team event.
- Silver Medal winners : Manu Bhaker in the women’s 10m air pistol event. She failed to win a medal at the Buenos Aires event. Arjun Babuta in the men’s 10m air rifle event. Simranpreet Kaur Brar in the women’s 25m pistol event. It was Simranpreet’s first-ever medal at the World Cup. Rudrannksh Patil & Arya Borse in the 10m air rifle mixed team event.
