Indra Unveils Modular Weapon System VALERO at FEINDEF 2025

At the recent FEINDEF defense exhibition in Madrid, Spanish defense firm Indra announced the introduction of VALERO, a groundbreaking modular weapon system designed for versatility across various missions. This innovative system comprises a multi-purpose air vehicle (MAV), a configurable surface launcher, a planning and control ground segment, and a suite of supporting equipment.

VALERO stands out due to its lightweight and autonomous capabilities, allowing it to operate in multiple flight modes. The weapon can be categorized as either expendable or optionally recoverable, making it adaptable for use with a diverse range of aerial and surface platforms. In the context of a mass attack, VALERO demonstrates advanced collaborative features, being capable of interacting with other systems to “deceive” enemy electromagnetic signals effectively.

According to Indra, these capabilities significantly enhance combat power during operations. By employing tactics that saturate and mislead opponents, VALERO can enable low-cost mass combat using numerous MAVs. This strategic approach positions VALERO as a vital asset in response to emerging threats in future multi-domain conflict scenarios, ultimately minimizing risk to both crews and critical platforms.

Designed entirely within Spain, VALERO is a product of a project initiated in 2023, tailored to meet the needs of the Spanish Armed Forces while bolstering the strategic autonomy of Spain and Europe in vital defense technologies. Its development is expected to stimulate industrial and technological growth, facilitating dual-use applications that benefit both civil and military sectors and showcasing Spanish industry on a global platform.

Director of weapons and ammunitions at Indra, Manuel Rodríguez Cerezo, emphasized the project’s ambition and its role in enhancing the national industrial sector. “The aim of this innovative, ambitious and structural project is to drive the national industrial fabric throughout the country,” he stated. He highlighted the collaboration with various industry players, attraction of talent, and partnerships with universities and specialized centers as integral components of the endeavor.

Indra is currently focused on the design and development of VALERO’s operational concept, architecture, and systems engineering, setting the stage for further advancements in this state-of-the-art defense technology.
