The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Chinar Corps, a key formation of the Indian Army based in Srinagar, recently assessed the security landscape in South Kashmir, reflecting heightened operational readiness amid ongoing counter-terrorism efforts.
During his visit, the commander engaged with personnel from various agencies, including the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). He commended their successful execution of recent anti-terror operations, notably praising Operations Keller and Nader, which have substantially curtailed terrorist activities in the districts of Shopian and Tral.
Operation Keller, executed on May 13 in a dense forest area of Keller in Shopian, was particularly significant, resulting in the neutralization of three terrorists, one of whom was a high-ranking commander associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba and The Resistance Front. The operation also led to the discovery of a large cache of arms and ammunition, including AK-series rifles and grenades. Just days later, on May 15, Operation Nader took place in Tral’s Nader locality, leading to the neutralization of three additional militants and the unearthing of further war-like supplies.
The GOC underscored the professionalism displayed by the troops, especially during the evacuation of civilians from the conflict zones involved in both operations. Their quick and accurate responses not only safeguarded non-combatants but also efficiently targeted militants entrenched in civilian areas.
Reiterating the commitment of the Chinar Corps to establish a terror-free Kashmir, the GOC stressed the necessity for ongoing vigilance and inter-agency collaboration. Since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, security forces have intensified their operations to dismantle militant networks and foster a stable environment in the region.
This review of operations aligns with a sustained trend of successful security interventions across Jammu and Kashmir in the past two years. Significant encounters, such as the twin operations in Kulgam in July 2024, have resulted in the elimination of six terrorists. The Indian Army, in close cooperation with various security forces, remains steadfast in its mission to uphold peace and stability in the Valley.
