The US Army has entered into a significant contract with HII, valued at $379 million, to enhance its Live Training, Ranges and Combat Training Centers. This extensive deal involves multiple orders for components that are crucial for preparing army personnel for combat scenarios in realistic environments.
Under this contract, HII will provide various new products and equipment designed to support ongoing technology refresh initiatives and updates. This includes both research and development efforts aimed at modernizing live-fire ranges, as well as upgrading existing systems. The project will be executed by HII’s Mission Technologies segment and will be closely coordinated with the US Army Simulation, Training, and Instrumentation program office. This office is responsible for the assembly, sustainment, evaluation, and data management of training platforms utilized by the army.
Michael Lempke, the President of HII’s Mission Technologies Global Security division, emphasized the critical importance of training for troop readiness, stating, “Training is absolutely vital for warfighter readiness.” He expressed eagerness to assist in the evolution of the Army’s training systems, which aim to create realistic and effective preparation for combat challenges.
This contract with the US Army comes on the heels of HII’s recent engagements with other branches of the military. In March, the company was awarded a project to provide logistics support for pilot training devices associated with the US Air Force’s F-16 Fighting Falcon. Additionally, HII secured an engineering support contract for various training systems linked to the US Navy’s Surface Warfare Center in Virginia.
Last year, HII developed a live-virtual hybrid training capability for the Air Force, and in 2023, the company undertook a significant project with the Navy, focusing on installation, laboratory assistance, cybersecurity, maintenance, and management of training platforms at the service’s largest fleet concentration site.
