In a significant address to soldiers at the Northern Command in Udhampur, Jammu & Kashmir, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced Operation Sindoor, marking a pivotal change in India’s counter-terrorism strategy. Criticizing previous passive responses to terrorism, he asserted that this operation symbolizes a formidable assertion of India’s stance towards such threats.
Singh emphasized that the operation underscores New India’s proactive and determined approach, demonstrating a willingness to confront terrorism with both military strength and strategic insight. He acknowledged the effective collaboration between the Armed Forces and intelligence agencies, noting their success in dismantling terrorist networks in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The Defence Minister credited the immense bravery and dedication of Indian soldiers for bringing about this shift in national policy.
“Operation Sindoor is not merely a military undertaking; it delivers a clear message to terrorists and their supporters that India will not accept any threats to its unity and integrity,” he affirmed, adding, “This is only a pause, not the end. I want my neighbouring country to comprehend this.”
Singh also highlighted the sacrifices made by Indian soldiers, emphasizing their courage and unwavering commitment to the nation. He acknowledged that their efforts are integral to maintaining national security.
In conjunction with his military address, the Defence Minister participated in a Barakhana event celebrating the eve of International Day of Yoga 2025. During this celebration, he encouraged troops to focus on their physical and mental well-being, linking personal strength to national security. “If you are strong, our borders will be strong. When the borders are strong, India will be strong,” he stated.
The event also showcased a range of cultural performances, including the Khukri Dance, Bhangra, Kalari Pattu, and Jhanz Patak, further instilling a sense of camaraderie among the troops. The occasion was graced by Chief of the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, Northern Command GOC-in-C Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, and other senior Army officials, underscoring the importance of unity and morale within the armed forces.
